F-250 Shock mounts on 71?

I've heard of doing this on CK5, not sure if its possible on this generation. I bought them for an 88K5 I had, never put them on. Do people do this on 67-72's? Im thinking of running doetsch tech shocks, maybe bilstien. Opinions?

What are you trying to achieve? Dual Shock?

No, just more travel, I think the 250 mounts are kinda long. I had dual shocks on another truck, too bumpy I think.

Re: F-250 Shock mounts on 71?

I have used them with longer Bistein shocks.
I was going to mount them so the top and bottom shock bolts were 'parallel' (like a stock shock), but after looking at lots of photos I just bolted 'em on. Well, after making the origonal mounting disappear that is. I actually cut the 'lumpy bit' off the chassis so the other mounts would bolt up smooth.

ok BillHilly you've got me intrigued?! What is your steering box doing on the right side of the frame and is that a torsion bar setup behind the spring hangers?

Re: F-250 Shock mounts on 71?

Well Ridin' High, It's all about location! I live a little south of you (New Zealand) and we drive on the 'right' side of the road. I wanted a user friendly daily driver vehicle so am in the process of converting.
The torsion bar is the front sway bar. I've installed a rear one as well. The truck is going to be my work (welding) truck and the reality is it will spend most of it's time on tarseal. I wanted my 37 year old leaf sprung vehicle to handle as good as possible so variable ratio steering box, sway bars, good shocks, good brakes etc etc.
I am digging your truck and motor build. BBC envy I think. Hopeing my 400SB lasts long enough to do a decent rebuild on in the future. Oh, and I have a subscription to Peterson's so already have the July issue in my hand with your truck on page 12! Congrats. Sorry, slight deviation from OP.

Awesome. I thought you might live in one of those "wrong side of the road" countries. I'm really curious about your dash and how your are moving things around in the cab. Do you have a thread started for your conversion? I'm very interested in following. Thanks for the magazine props and I look forward to your future comments on my BBC tread. Sorry Reno's 71 we're going a little off topic.

Is going to be a street truck or a trailing truck. Depending on the travel that your are looking for a shock hoop might be better, but it depend on the amount of travel you are looking for. You truck is looking great by the way! Keep up the good work. 4x4 are a never ending build!

Build thread here - http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...=217490&page=2
A few photo's of the cab at the start. I'm battling the last of the chassis stuff then itching to get started on the cab proper.

Back to normal transmission Reno's71.

They work fine...to a point.

1st shot is of the first run with the furd towers, later they were fully welded to the frame.

2) This is what happened after several wheeling trips but keep in mind, I had limiting straps, so the Dana 60 & the set of 42's were pulling on em during full drop.

3) The fix, no more worries.

Re: F-250 Shock mounts on 71?

I drive this thing everyday. Untill I get a daily. I go offroad about twice a month. Nothing extreme, just some fun. Id like to have this thing very functional, and very nice. The nice factor is in the future. The same goes for the mud terrains. I dont NEED them, their just good though. Know what I mean? I know what I mean..
