Mobil Man-Cave

I finally found the perfect restoration piece to go onto the back of the Longhorn, once it is finished! And for only $100...what could possibly go wrong? This is a 1967 Avion camper that is built much like the old Airstream trailers with an aluminum frame and skin, making it much more resistant to water leaks and subsequent dry rot.

Had I known this camper was half way up the mountain to Anthony Lakes and about 4 miles down a logging road behind his cabin...I might have taken a week to scout the operation. The PO had to tow his off-road forklift from his business 14 miles away just to access the camper on the logging road. Despite all that it only took 2 hours to load the camper and crawl out of the woods! We only popped on nylon ratchet strap on the way out of the woods so we felt fortunate.

The wife says she won't sleep in it so I guess I am installing a bar and big screen TV!

Wow, that will be cool. You know you have to polish that thing to a mirror finish, right?

Tell your wife that the "mobile man cave" ain't for sleeping in.

My wife wouldn't sleep in it either. She said she won't even drive my truck when I'm done with it. She doesn't like old stuff she says!

AWESOME! I need to find something like that, restore it, then the antique wooden boat to complete the vintage ensemble!

"The wife says she won't sleep in it ......."

You just hafta get some cool stuff for it, like shag carpeting, lava lamps, a sticker beside the door that says: "if the campers a-rockin, don't come a knockin..."

She'll really love it then.

Kidding aside: Really neat old rig & will be a nice asset to have when done & cleaned up a bit.

Re: Mobil Man-Cave

Those are good looking units when they are cleaned up. You could probably get twice what you paid for it for the alunimum in it.

And it looks better than the one he started with on the site below.

I've been married almost 40 years and my wife doesn't get too excited about what we sleep in as long as it is clean and dry and not a tent.

Re: Mobil Man-Cave

My question is why is a guy that owns as many fine Chevrolet products as you do renting a FORD to haul around a camper?

YES...that was my concern...LOL! It was 380 miles away and the Longhorn "confidence" has not progressed to that distance yet...would have been fun a trip however and I did consider it.

First things first...paint the old logo! I will try to clean it and get some shots inside tonight.
