how to clean old tank?

hey guys i have an old fuel tank that is all stinky and varasoiled (sp?)
i am wondering what you guys to to clean old tanks in this sorta condition.

Taking it to a radiator shop is your best bet. On the '73, I popped of the sending unit and used rags and carb cleaner to clean up the tank. You'll have to use a stick or something to push them rags around, unless you have arms like Spongebob. That worked for me...

Be sure to check sturdiness of the metal where the straps go around it. They can rust out (through) right there and start leaking. It might be worth it to just get a re-pop and throw up in there.
