Amazing what some people do
Well, I had recently purchased a 69 c10 from a guy with no motor and no tranny which was fine because I want to put a 454 in it anyways. Well, upon talking to the guy he did tell me for a fact the floor would need replaced which I didn't think was a big deal as I have a buddy who can weld and said it wouldn't be a problem. Well, after tearing up the carpet it was very clear that pretty much the whole floor does need replaced. Also, when I first got it I noticed a strange kinda of texture to the kick panels. I couldn't tell if it was remnants left over from kick panel carpet glue or something rubbing on it, it just looked odd and not smooth at all. Mind you, the truck was orginally a Olive green color, was repainted a Turqouise green and now the outside is in primer.
So, today I pulled up all of the carpet, removed the bench seat and pulled the gas tank out. To my surprise I noticed a piece of duct tape kind of hanging out in the bottom corner of the cab floor opposite the cab corners. After pulling and watching the inner corner tear and seperate before my eyes in one big solid piece I noticed a huge hole underneath it. Somebody actually took the time to Mold Duct tape into the shape of a inner cab corner and painted it along with the rest of the interior. Now I know that in both of my inner cab corners and both of my kick panels are now duct tape. WoW. |

Re: Amazing what some people do
Until I get the bed off and do some more digging I am not sure what else is wrong with it. I only paid 500 for the whole truck. One question I have...is it possible to replace the firewall? Do they sell parts that you can weld in? Or is it better to just find a different cab and pray that it has less rust?

Re: Amazing what some people do
Wow, duct tape has some great uses. Some people rather hack or just rig stuff instead of doing things right from the get go.

Re: Amazing what some people do

Thats why I bought mine, with the rusty cab(took off 500.00), but GOOD everything else. Got a new cab for 200.00. THey are out there, might be a better start for the project. Got mine for 250.00 but I will have a large amount of time in it to get it complete. Also dont mind making it mine now. Good luck. I just hate hacks. BILL |

About the floor and firewall..I've seen that both Year one and LMC have the complete floor pan with rails for sale for anyone from 400-700 dollars. But neither of them that I could see offered the firewall panels. Can you recommend or suggest somewhere who may? |

Re: Amazing what some people do
Fill the Void with newspaper, poprivet new metal in place (preferably old license plates or street signs, realtor sign works in a pinch, then final mold with bondo (be sure to put it on thick)....This is how every car or truck I bought in the 80's was built. Part of the reason I bought a welder.

Re: Amazing what some people do
Dont forget the old expanding spray foam, fill in those cab corners or rockers with it, when it dries knock of the excess with the mud-hawg, and start slingin the mud! Not that I have ever doghoused anything like that personally ;-)

Re: Amazing what some people do
Back in the 80's a friend of mine bought a MK1 Ford Escort, turned out the front roll pan (i guess thats what you'd call it, we call it a valance) was made of paper mache and one rocker had a full foil packet of bread sauce mix covered with bondo in a hole.
