Blazer gas tank fill options
I'll be putting a blazer fuel tank in my SWB and I'm looking for ideas on filling it up.
I'm opposed to directly filling through the floor in case I have it loaded and need to access, it would be a pain. I'm not a fan of running a hose to the fender well. I'd like to graft in a fuel door from some late model truck and then run a hose to the tank, knowing I"ll have to cut into the frame to make it work. Anyone have pics of what they have done? |

Re: Blazer gas tank fill options
Oops stepside. My almost suggestion won't work.
I've seen one with a discreet door on the back side of the stepside fender that didn't stand there and wave at you. I think I spotted it walking past a truck at a show a few years ago and had that "hey cool" thought and didn't think to take a photo. Another idea might be to hide it in plain sight. Put a stainless tube out just in front of the bed with a 90 in it to run right up in front of the rear stanchen post. Boat style cap on top of it and there it is just like the original one my 48 except on the opposite corner of the bed. Either way you should be able to slip a filler tube between the bed and frame without cutting the frame although you may have to flatten out the tube right there a bit. |

Yeah for the frame cutting, I haven't put the fleet bed on the truck yet (sold the stepside) so I wasn't sure on clearance.
I've still have to C-notch it for the axle so no biggie if I need to. |

Re: Blazer gas tank fill options
I cut mine out of a 97 in a junk yard and welded it in I had a muffler shop bend a 1 1/4 tube to clear the frame and tied it all together with 1 1/2 fill hose. It works real well if you hook up the vent to the neck

Re: Blazer gas tank fill options
If it's not too much trouble can you send me or post some pics from the underside of the bed and from the inside of the bed.
You've captured exactly what I want to do. |

Re: Blazer gas tank fill options
Here are a couple and as you can see I had to cut into the bed a small amount.

Re: Blazer gas tank fill options
Not hard, the guys are usually using Blazer or Suburban tanks.
There are several threads on here about the subject. I think Suburban/blazer tank in the search will probably bring them up. http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&s...hevytrucks.com Last edited by mr48chev; 06-04-2009 at 03:47 PM. |

The tank itself is easy enough to move back but it's all the plumbing that will probably cause you the most headaches. Not just fuel lines but also fuel fillers.
I'm still in the project phase so I don't even have mine in the truck yet, just like to get a game plan together before jumping in is why I started this thread. |
