Should I..65 or 78?

Looking at a 65 short bed fleetside c10 project. Guy wants $1000 for it. It has a 283 in it and he said it hasnt run in 8 years. There is also a 78 c10 for sale for 1600, but it runs. It has a stepside bed though so Id buy a fleetside for it. What do you think is a better idea? I would eventually slam it and put a big motor in (hopefully air ride.) Thanks

If you're looking for a project I'd go with the '65. It may be more work, but I think it would be a cooler truck when your done.

Re: Should I..65 or 78?

Well since this is in the 60-66 area of the forum I think you can guess what the answers will be.

Remember the 65 will have drum brakes all around, no sway bars, manual steering and brakes = takes more money to get it modern if thats what you want.

Re: Should I..65 or 78?

I vote '65 of course... just remember the '78 will have to be smogged... not worth it in my opinion

Re: Should I..65 or 78?

I'd guess to say the '65, but without pics it's tough to provide a definite answer.

I think the '65 would make a slick truck.

Re: Should I..65 or 78?

here are the trucks...
65- doesnt run, needs a new cab. I can probably get it for 600... http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/cto/1204002365.html
78- still waiting to hear back from him with more details...
http://worcester.craigslist.org/cto/1177394722.html
looking at it again it kind of looks like its 4wd...which I do not want, so we'll see.

That 78 is a 2 wheel drive. I like them both, but it looks like the 65 needs a lot more work than the 78. It all depends on what you like and how much you are willing to put into it.
