I know that most people are using either headers or ramhorn manifolds. What other choices are out there?

by the way im talking about for small blocks.

the only thing I don't like about the ramhorns is the spark plug wire routing.

I was thinking about using some newer manifolds, the ones that drop down then run across. like on 88 up chevy trucks.

so that i could run my spark plug wires over the valve covers and drop them down to the exhaust manifolds and not worry about burning them.

any suggestions or input appreciated.

I suggest grabbing a pair and finding out. I've always wondered how they would work out as well. Just never looked to see if the rear dump would interfere with shift linkage or anything.

I do not speak from experinace, but someone said the newer ones won't work.
you can route the wires over the ram horns, just get some looms that bolt to the valve covers.

I've got some from a '69 Nova. They drop down and then back towards the firewall, then turn down to the exhaust. (If that made sense.) I'd have to look at them again tomorrow but that sounds about like what you are looking for.

I solved the hot ram horn problem by having the manifolds cermachromed (ceramic coating looks like chrome). That brought the exterior temps down. I decided to go with the rams to maintain clearance for my clutch linkage. Just a note: I used two right side ram manifolds to match the exhaust flows for both sides, 2-1/4" to the Flowmasters, 2-1/2" from there back. Nice tone.

Tried the newer style manifolds only to find they hit the upper A arms...........

You could go with the ram horns with the 45 degree angle back and use plug wires with the straight boot..........they go out far enough not to be a problem....

i would of thought that the only problem would be shift/clutch linkage.

hmmm.

i was just wondering if anyone had the newer manifolds, guess everyone is using the ramhorns

The newer manifolds also dont clear the dipstick on older motors
