They are basically the same with some minor differences between the '63-'66's and the '67-'72's. For the sake of tech dicussion. It seems to me you could put a newer tank and sending unit (0-90 ohm) and wire a 58 ohm resister in parallel. This would make your guage "see" 35.27 ohms full instead of 90.

Someone has to have done this........did it work?



A Bronco tank might make a good swap for these trucks too. The filler comes out the side.

the problem I see with that is you will never see zero ohms, when the sender ohms go down to zero your circuit will see the full 58 ohms of the added resistor. guess if it never makes it to zero, it should work.....but you will never see empty, or is it full? can't remember

If it never got below 1 ohm it would be fine but if it hit zero, yes it would be 58 ohms.

I am going to try it with a Bronco tank. I will start a new thread when I do it.

As far as dimensions and making it fit, I found a lot of different options in this catalog with dimensions. I am just never sure if their dimensions are from the outside edge of the flange or from the sides of the tank.

maybe you could modify the sender so it never goes below a half or quarter ohm......guess first you would need to find out what the exact resistance from the sender registers E on the gauge (i educated myself zero ohm is empty) and adjust accordingly......

I will put a 1 ohm resistor in series with the sender/58 ohm and elimante the possibility of ever going 0. I think all the parts are less than $1.

actually that won't work, if the sender went to zero ohms then you would have a 58 ohm and a 1 ohm in series for a total of 59 ohms...

how about the tread with the 69 camaro tank with the filler coming right the license plate .i also seen where a guy used a 71-72 cutlass tank....seems like a lot less work.who else has done this >>>>HHHHMMM chime in there has to be a easy way with welding a GAS TANK

I picked up a tank from a blazer, now I am just wondering how people have plumbed it and what they did for fuel filler etc. I have found a lot w/ the fleetsides, but I have a step.

here is what i have done on my 64. go thte tank a few years back when So Cal Speed Shop had a store here in the Houstoin area. The tank is from Tanks Inc if I am not mistaken. Should have the bed mount back on the truck in the next few weeks before we tear back down for paint.
