i've seen/heard different takes on this b-4.is it only advised or is it actually necessary to put the dropped shocks on once you have gone to a 3-4 drop? kinda would like to put this subject to rest w/myself so i can go ahead and order the parts needed.(and not have to turn around and order some shocks later).thanks guys!

ANYTHING, over 2" you will need shorter shocks or RELOCATERS. Many will disagree, but if you leave the stockers they will fail premature and you will replace shocks alot.

Well you definitely don't have to change shocks, but I sure would and always have in the past. If you just think about it, a shock works in a certain "zone" or area of the shock body - so if you take a stock shock and compress it 3 or 4 inches more than it should be, its going to be almost at the bottom of the shock body. Sure it will have alot of room to expand, but the first pot big pot hole or situation where it has to compress and you'll bottom it out and start busting seals and such. Plus you'll get a better ride with some nice lowered shocks that are designed to work with a lowered suspension. My $.02

I am running custom made shock relocaters, & stock lenght shocks with a cut coil drop(approx2 1/2-3 " drop front). You can get front shock relocators from Turner Enteprises for about $45. Good luck,crazyL

if you want to this old man told me if you use 70-79 chevy van shocks they will do the same thing as a lowered shock and he was right it saved me about 80.00

good avice powder...was this on the front or rear of your truck and wasit the front or rear shocks from the van..thanks

Yes. If you lower your truck, you have eliminated that many inches from the travel of the shock. You also want to relocate the rear shocks to maintain you driveline angle. If you have coils on the rear, you need an adjustable panhard bar to keep the rearend centered. A kit that includes shocks, springs, shock mounts and panhard bar costs about $500 from Early Classic Enterprises (www.earlyclassic.com). That's more than 2cents worth, but if you've spent the money to buy the truck and you want to keep it, don't go too cheap on your suspension.

EIBACH springs and DOETSCH TECH shocks are the only way to go. Progressive rate and a full lifetime warranty.
