Have a question about bed sides.....
Alright guys, I'm sort of a newb to this site. Been lurking around for awhile, but I just recently purchased a 71 GMC. Actually yesterday! It's seems like a nice platform for what I'm wanting to do. Has 72000 original miles, 402 BB, tubbed with a narrowed ford 9". The only thing I don't like is, it is a LWB. I don't really want to mess with finding another SWB, because this bed is already tubbed, and has the center section raised as well. What I'm wondering, is there any way I can just order the bedsides and just cut the bed floor on the front and back? If I can, where can I buy bedsides for pretty cheap. I don't mind if they are reproduction, I'm not taking this thing to Barrett Jackson. It will soon be setup for a DD, and I don't really want to spend extra just to say it has OEM parts!
Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks, Austin |

Welcome to the 67-72 Chevy Truck site from West Michigan!
You might try GMC Pauls and there are others. http://www.gmcpauls.com/ Shipping will be expensive so if you find some close by so you can pick them up it will save you some money. Jim

Re: Have a question about bed sides.....
I agree use yours if they are repairable. The LWB sides are still easier to find in decent shape. We sell the 8ft bedsides for $492 each x2 is $984.00.
You can find some nice used beds for that. We may have a bed with good sides depending on what our customer wants to do with it. Mike Last edited by mbgmike; 06-07-2009 at 09:22 AM. |

I think these guys have a point on using your bedsides.... if you want to tackle the whole "chop, cut, rebuild" of it....

Re: Have a question about bed sides.....
Hello Austin!
Your idea will work, I've done it before. Using repro sides would be the way to go but, If you're looking to save money, cutting down your LB sides would save and be a fair more amount of work. Good luck.

Re: Have a question about bed sides.....
Alright, thanks for the posts guys. I don't really want to cut up these bedsides because they are in such good shape. I would rather buy new SWB bedsides and sell mine to someone on here that needs a set of nice OEM LWB bedsides. Where is a good place to buy reproduction parts?
GruntMoan- where did you get your repros? Thanks Again, Austin |
