A different shorty header question

I've got some shorty chevelle headers that I got off eBay from skip white. They are damn nice, and the price was right. They do, however, present a problem. I don't have a real good picture of it, but on the driver side the collector is real close to the ground, pointing at it actually. Here the question.... Is there a company that makes a curved collector?

**edit**
found some pics of that kinda show the problem. The passenger side will be fine...

Re: A different shorty header question

I am unsure, but check with SLP. They just about make everything.

They are proud of their products though, if you know what I mean. But with good reason. I have some of their polished stainless mufflers at the shop, they are nothing short of incredible.

Re: A different shorty header question

Funny you mention stainless mufflers... I'm shopping for those right now, too. Have a link to the ones you have I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures and prices. I found some flow masters on eBay for $102 shipped.

Re: A different shorty header question

If no one else makes it, you could build your own out of a Mandrel bent U or J bend. You know the ones you can get from Summit? They have them in a few different CLR. Get the smallest one they offer in the size you want.

As for the mufflers, I would check their site. http://www.slponline.com/modular_exhaust.asp

Thats the best I could find on the mufflers. I have the packed LoudMouth ones for a car in the shop right now. I can take pictures of them. I think they where around $200 each, but don't quote me on it. The customer supplied them.

And I was actually thinking of SPD for the collectors. I found their site, they may have something for you.

Re: A different shorty header question

I took 2" or so out of the header collector. Just hack it off and weld it back together. This puts the flange closer to the primaries and up away from the ground. Get a standard collector extension, cut it almost flush to the bell flange and use a piece of mandrel bent tubing to get the angle you need. Mine tucks up above the rails completely using this method and those headers...

Re: A different shorty header question

Yah that's the one I meant that was proud of their products with good reason. I used some of their 3 tube collectors and larger two tubes to build a Tri-Y type stainless header. The parts where about as perfect as I could have asked for, and I could not have done better.

I've been considering this option... have any pic of how you did yours? what angle should I use for the bend? 90? or less?

Re: A different shorty header question

No pics, sorry. I'm 2k miles from the truck right now... I used a 45* mandrel from Flowmaster that I had laying around. You should be able to fix your problem for less than $10 and a little work...

I'll be ordering a 45* bend then, as soon as I figure out what type of material I'll be using for the exhaust.

by the way , does your truck lay flat on the frame?

thanks!!!!

Not currently, but soon. I've got a guy building me some stuff The collectors would not keep it from laying if it were though...

Re: A different shorty header question

Just thought I'd post some pics of how this problem turned out. I ended up buying a pair of 45* stainless bends from flowmaster, and cutting the collectors down to about 1/2" long. After that it was just like running any other exhaust system.
