FYI - Ebrake cable boots
This post is purely informational and pertains to my 64 C10 longbed fleetside but may to others as well I imagine.
It started when I was looking at the pictures in the catalogs for new ebrake cables for my truck and none of them showed the boot where the cable comes out of the sheathing so I called classicparts.com and LMC and both assured me it came with it. As it turned out the classicparts.com did not come with anything and the LMC one came with the purplish boot in the picture, it feels like a really cheap silicon type rubber. So I went on a quest to find "the boot" I ended up at Jim Carter and they listed a boot for 36-59 cables but it looked exactly like what was on mine (the old one in the picture) so for $3.56 I ordered a pair. Well they came in today and they are exactly like what I have, same length, same opening, right down to the little tabs/bumps on the side (green arrows). On my old the little other opening broke off when I removed it from the cable (white dashed circle). The boot connects to the cable in the ridge indicated with the red arrow. Well it's kind of a wordy post but maybe it might help someone if they are looking to do a more period correct restoration.

Re: FYI - Ebrake cable boots
1964C10,
Did you have any problems in sliding the boot over the swagged ends of the cable? I finally found a couple of used boots that weren't rotted and they still split a little when I had to stretch them over the ends of the cables. I would guess with the boots being new, they would stretch a little better than old ones. |

Re: FYI - Ebrake cable boots
I haven't put them on yet but I should be getting to that here in the next day or so. I am planning on using plenty of lube of some kind lol
