Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

Reason I ask is that I'm swapping my '70 over to a '67 front clip and was wondering if I could:

1) Modify my current core support to work or...

2) What body mounts do I need for a 67 support on a 70 frame?

Thanks in advance guys

I'm pretty sure there is something else also. They are NOT interchangeable.

Re: Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

So headlight buckets, and from what I can tell in pictures- the pass through holes for the parking lights. Anything else?

And what's the difference between the mounts for the two different core supports?

Thanks -Chris

Re: Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

Here's a pic that shows the differences. As far as mounting of the fenders and how it mounts to the frame they are the same. The differences are in the headlight buckets (as mentioned above) and the holes (also mentioned above) The difference in mounting on the frame is because of the different brackets on the frame between 67-68 and 69-72. I have heard the people that have made the swap you are talking about just used the 69-72 bushings.

Re: Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

Well I went out to my storage bld and this is what I found. The main dif is the head light buckets. On 69 and up they just added the bucket that is not on the 67-68. Everything else is 100% the same from what I could tell. Height, width, thickness, mounting holes, fender mounts, everything is the same. Their are a few holes in the 69 up suport right behind the light buckets that may make it hard to just remove your bucket. It would tak alittle bit of modifying but not that much at all. It looks like you could cut off the front plate of the bucket and attach it to the 67-8 suport. I did not look but I was told the hood latch is also differt but I will head back out and try and find my 67 latch.

Re: Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

Yep the latches are in fact different. On the right is a 71 and laft is a 67. The 67 is lower in the front where it mounts to the grill. But the core suport is the same except for the added buckets on a 69 up. What you would need to do is remove the added light bucket from your 69-72 and cut off the "legs" that hold it out from the suport. Then you would need to weld this now flat plate to the suport. Although it would be better to take the plate and trace around the out side of it on to the suport and then cut along that line so when you weld in the plate it would be flush with the suport metal. If not the new mounting surface would be about 3/32" farther forward then stock would have been. May be one of these days in my spare time I will convert my 71 suport (its in bad shape and I have a clean replacement) to a 67-8 and do a write up for you all.

Re: Difference between 67-68 and 70-up core support

From what I understand all years (67-72) of the GMC supports are the 67-68 style with the double headlight buckets spot-welded on.

Nope! As a mater of fact I will need a second one for one of m projects
And yes the 67-72 GMC suport is the same for all years and they are the 67-68 suport just with spot welded mounts like mentioned above.
