Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

Where are you guys buying hardware? Are most buying it local? Such as home depot, etc. or? Are thery any good places online? Went to pick up some bolts for my center crossmember and home depot had 6 of the 8nut/bolt/washer's I needed. Just tired of going to 2 or 3 different places to buy bolts.

Re: Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

It depends on the quantity needed. If you need a large quantity of a specific size, check for a local fastener supply. You can buy a box of bolts for the same price as a handfull at Home Depot.

The HD near my house is the same (not enough or no inventory). It's so frequent that I don't even consider using them anymore unless I'm already there for something else.

At my boiling point, I went so far as to tell the person working that area (it was a supervisor in charge) about the frustration. I had been in a few weeks before looking for a particular bolt combo which they were out of. I let the person know & gave them the empty box. Each time I went back to pick them up (I pass the store on my way home)...... nothing. This went on for too long & I finally went out of my way to get them elsewhere.

Re: Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

Tractor Supply has a good selection of grade 8 and grade 5 in my area. They keep the big bins with the open front's full of nuts, bolts and washers ... not those little slide-out drawer type deals like at Lowes or Home Despot that only carry a handful.

Fastenal, Lowes.
For my minimum needs, Lowes works well. But call them first if you know exactly what you need. Then hope you spoke with someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

Tractor Supply has bulk grade 8 hardware in all sizes bolts, washers, and nuts for 3.69 a pound. You just fill the plastic sack till with whatever assortment that you choose then they weigh it and charge you by the pound.

Re: Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

Tractor supply, fastenal, Bolts and screws, Napa, RARELY ever go to Lowe's or HD to get bolts. Unless its after 5:30 and i need something right then, Then I MIGHT got to lowes or HD.

Re: Where is everyone buying Grade 8 hardware?

m6, since we dont have a tractor supply local, and HD and lowes suck at bolt selection....ive found that atwoods at 71st and county line has alot better options....and you can buy it by the pound, not by the package...

Yep..........Home Depot is a joke when it comes to specialty hardware......actually a joke on a lot more than that! As mentioned try a fastener supply and if you have a local hardware store like ACE they normally have a nice selection also.

McMaster is great resource. They are seldom out of stock and they ship immediately. I phoned in a order around 1 AM on a Sunday morning and the stuff was delivered Monday morning.
