relocating gas filler

Guys, I want to relocate my gas filler to the bed, between the front and the whel well. I have a 77, so do not have that door to deal with. I'm getting ready for the body work, and want to smooth out the side. I want to make a recessed area large enough to accomodate the tube and cap without sticking up. Anything special I should do beforehand, other than remove the tank before welding, etc? Looking for input here.

i have a similar problem, i was going to fab up a gas door in the bottom of the bed, you could take the stock fuel door hinge mechanism and use it in the bed..
