Correct/alternate tire size '76 C/20?

Can anyone tell me the correct tire size for a 1976 C/20? It has 16.5s on it now but the door jamb says 7.5 x 16 E. I have jus aquired a '72 longhorn chassis that has 16 inch rims and I want to get some tires that are suitable for the '76 that won't cost me a fortune. Can someone help me out here?

Thanks, Dwayne

The 1976 C20 regular cab came standard with 8.75-16.5/6ply tires. The the Bonus cab came with 8.75-16.5/6ply front and 8ply rears. The Crew cab came with 9.50-16.5/ 8ply standard. Larger size tubeless and tube type tires were available. I used to order the 7.50-16/10ply tube type tires on my trucks instead.

Re: Correct/alternate tire size '76 C/20?

some had 16" wheels some had 16.5" looks like yours came w/ 16s. P metric sice translates to 235 85 R 16. these are as close as you can get. i dont think anyone is making 750 16s in a radial.

i think the stock wheel width was 6.5".

Re: Correct/alternate tire size '76 C/20?

The tires on the truck in question are 9.5 X 16.5. As you know the 16.5 tires are hard to find and VERY expensive. My other truck has 235/85 R16s on the rear and 245/75 R16s on the front. They both look OK so I guess either of them would work. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering what the actual original size was but it sounds like it could have been a couple different sizes.
