5/7 or 6/8???

well, i know i'm gonna go lower this summer no matter what, since i have to replace the spindles, but i'm still deciding how low.

and its really hard because i like it REALLY low. i cant afford bags right now because i need/want a new engine more.

so, when i replace my spindles, i think i'll redo most of the front end stuff. get the control arms, new spindles, and crossmember powder coated. i'll probably end up getting a set of 3" djm spindles for the 6/8 along with 3" djm springs, or new 2.5" WC spindles and 2.5" springs(i can sale my current 1.5" springs)

i'll also get a new performance bushing kit a long with new calipers, sloted rotors, SS brake lines, and of course... new bearings and lots of grease

that way, i can go ahead and get some 1.25" spindles so i can get the bigger brakes also.

if you don't mind scarping your control arms then i'd go 6/8. you said you wanna be low, so do it. your powder coating isn't gonna last long on the lca's with 5/7 or 6/8 so i wouldn't waste my money on that. just rust oleum them or somehting so you can touch them up

the powder coating was something i wasnt sure about, since it would cost a lot o money. i havent scraped my lca's once with my 4/6 drop, and i've only scraped my headers once since putting on my doestch techs.

i don't scrape my lcas often but ever once and awhile you will get caught off gaurd i bam em into the ground, thats the only ting that will hit, so you could powder coat everything else, but i'm pretty sure if you get those lcas all pretty looking they won't stay that way for long. just look at gregs pics. mine aren't quite that bad, but i've only been rolling a 5/7 for a year not four.

6-8! 6-8! 6-8!

Seriously though, I still say leave your truck the drop it's at (looks damn good) and wait for bags. I know you can't afford them now, but save your money for when you can.
I don't think there's a huge difference between 5/7 and 6/8, you've just got to learn to drive it. I rarely scrape, yet you've seen my A-arms. When I was having my truck painted I put 15" ralleys with little 50 series tires on it, it about dropped my truck another inch (think 7/9!!!!), I had to drive 6 miles at about 30 mph max to keep from scraping on every bump in the road.

I put 2.5 spindles and 3" springs and also got 2 " smaller tires on mine. The crossmember sits 2.5 in from the road, I have had lowered trucks for a long time and I do know how to drive them, but I find even the smoothest roads have small humps in them. My truck looks awesome but if I were you I would just save for bags if you want a road grader :p

Eric:

Maybe you can make phantom dually for his coated control arms while they are available.
