Hello all! Well i drove the truck to work today to get it registered and at every stop sign it dies on me. HAs anyone run into this? Im sure someone on here has. I was thinking that the carb needs rebuilt. The PO said that the float was hosed and it is seeping a little but not a major deal.

its not dying its fainting every time it sees red

i would say it was the carb you could do a tune up and a carb rebuild and it would probably fix the problem
i bet when it not under a load it floods and soaks your plugs
how long does it take you to start it after it dies
what engine is this
if the float is leaking at all it needs to be changed that will cause it to flood

Thats too funny!

Its a 235 sixer. It doesnt take much to start it back up after it dies. It actually starts back up right away but its embarrasing. I took it out for lunch a little bit ago and i noticed that i had the choke all the way in and she likes it a little bit pulled out. When i have the choke out about a quarter of an inch it doesnt die. I still have the rebuild kit and float so im going to do a rebuild it anyways. Im getting used to it as this is only the 2nd time ive driven it since i got it. Clutch definitely needs adjusted though as it grabs to high on the pedal. Thanks for the reply!

My first oldie was a '51 Chevy 3100. I cruised it with a 235 for a good while...with the choke about a 1/4" pulled out! I'm not sure why, but it ran better that way. I never changed a thing...until we put a 350 in it later.

Could it be a vacuum leak somewhere? If you are having to pull the choke then it's running lean. If your float has a leak then it won't empty that fast for you to restart and drive away.

For some reason it just runs better when the choke cable is out 1/4 of the way like jchav62 said. Could be that the cable is misadjusted? The carb needs rebuilt anyhow since the bowl is seeping. I dont think that there even is vaccum lines on this engine to be honest but could be wrong. I havent had it that long to pay attention to that... If i figure it out i will post to let everyone know what it was... Thanks for your help guys!

It is definitely a lean condition. I would check the idle/mixtures screw. It may just be in to far. A good thing to have on the engine while you are doing this would be a vacuum gauge. Adjust your idle mixture screw(s) one at a time until you get the best vacuum reading and try that out.

Also it wouldn't hurt to check that the base bolts are tight, but since you rebuilding it anyways, you'll find that out.
