hmmmm bad or not?

ok so i took the after market breather off my valve cover cuz it wasn't working any more...so i put the stock one back on and then cut the after market one open and i noticed that the foam inside of it was completely full of oil....is that a bad thing and if the after market one is full of oil dose that mean that the stock one is just gunna suck up oil into the intake cuz it doesn't have any foam to stop it

Re: hmmmm bad or not?

Are they the stock valve covers? Stock ones should have a baffle around the opening on the inside to prevent oil from escaping there.

Re: hmmmm bad or not?

In my years of working in the quick lube industry I saw many breather elements saturated with oil. It usually is attributed to worn piston rings causing "blow-by". I wouldn't be too concerned about until it pukes enough to re-enter the carb, or ejects the dipstick out of the tube.

Re: hmmmm bad or not?

It sounds like your building crankcase pressure and it has nowhere to go. Check your pcv valve. My 85 BBC did the same thing because i was not running a pcv system. It would puke oil out the breathers. I installed taller valve covers and a pcv system and the problem solved. No more messy valve covers. It had no blow-by, just too much crankcase pressure. I went with the taller v/covers because i had them, and plus , they just look better.
