Capacitor qestion
How big of an amp justifies hooking up a capacitor?

Re: Capacitor qestion
Say bud,
I think I remember reading that around 750 watts would justify a power cap. However in my opinion save the $150 or more and get a cleaner amp. I had one installed inline with a Kenwood Excelon 900w amp and it did not seem to improve anything. The cap was a Tsunami 2 farad cap, the only thing it was good for with my setup was the digital top. That being said, today I would still recomend that cap for someone wanting to try it. |

Re: Capacitor qestion
Caps may be the most useless piece of equipment ever produced for car stereos...
That being said, they can help, given you get one that is the proper size. The size will depend on the ACTUAL power needs of the system. 750watts RMS really doesn't need a cap of any kind. Realisitcally, you won't see more than 500watts being used. If you see your lights dimming, and your voltage taking a big dip (below 12.2) alot, then invest in a larger battery like an Optima Yellow Top or Kinetik 1800HC. I have seen several 1 and 2 farad caps tested against a specialized battery, and the output differences were negligible at best. The caps that are worth looking at are the new "hybrid" pieces from Stinger and Xstatic (BatCap). These types of capaciators combine a large reserve (battery) and quick release (cap) to help increase amplifier output and performance. I personally run twin Kinetik HC600's and one Kinetik HC1800 and will soon be adding a second. Then again, my power demands are a bit more intansive than most peoples' ever will be. My new amps will draw (potentially) more than 350amps of power at one time. That's enough to power my house...

Re: Capacitor qestion
Caps are an easy install if needed. Usually not for most stereo upgrades. Upgrade your grounds and power wires in your truck first. Allow your power to flow better and see if that works. If not, then go extra batter/cap. Here's a good link to take a look at. It will apply to all vehicles.

Re: Capacitor qestion
when i had the system in my frontier i was running 2 12 inch jl audio w6's i had a usamps 1600 watt 2 channel and my lights dimmed badly, i was also running 2 capacitors then i added another battery and that improved things drastically. miss my system but i traded it for a truck
