dropping it

i have a 1969 GMC c2500 and i am thinking about droping it but i am on a bugdet are there any cheap ways of droppin her down a couple inches?

How cheap? You can cut the front coils. Is the rear coil or leaf? If it's coil you can use a block. If it's leaf a lowering shackle will do it.

as cheap as possible, i just got out of school. the rear is a leaf spring set up. where could i get a drop schakle

You can pull your front springs and cut a coil off. Don't heat them, or use excessive heat to cut them. I cut off wheel is best.

Try the forum vendors for lowering shackles.

summit has shackles cheap and if you cut the spring your going to run into issues because your changing the spring rate of the coil so when you cut the coil your going to get more body roll and your cornering is going to go to hell summit also has drop springs cheap your best bet would be to get thier stuff if your on a budget but in my opinion i would never ever cut a coil.

if you wanted to do it really cheap cut the coils up front and you can mono leaf the back. it wont ride very good but its pretty much free.

the only problem with mono leafing is axle wrap if you get on the gas to hard your liable to snap the leaf then your up poop creek

I would not mono leaf it either. You can take out a couple of leaves for an inch or two but I would want at least 2 leaves and you'll need to drive with a light right foot if you do that.

An axle flip kit at POL is like $110
That'll get you 4-5 inches out back with all your spring pack intact.

Cut 1 coil. It's not a big deal. Really it's not. It'll be stiffer, but if you cut no more than 1 coil it won't beat you up. Use a cut off wheel not a torch.

where can you get the axle flip kit? or what is the price for a complete set up to bag it? can you keep it under 600? or at least close

Actually the opposite is true. By cutting a coil you increase the spring rate which effectivly reduces body roll. While I don't feel it is the best solution, I have done this enough times to know it will work.

I agree that the "best" solution is to purchase a set of lowering springs, but that is not the "cheapest" way.

Please do not recommend something that is not safe. No one should ever run a mono leaf unless it was a spring made specifically for an intended application.

As for bags you could buy a bracket setup for the front $60 from ***************** then buy 2 bags and a set of sharader valves and the front would be done. It'll basically be a static drop since you'll have to hit a gas station but you can always upgrade to switches and compressor, tank etc as you get funds.

You probably can't bag the leaf rear for very cheap at all. You'll need a 4 link to keep the axle on, plus bags, brackets etc. The cheapest 4 links are weld in and $3-400 or so.

i guess that isnt to bad maybe the air set up will come later. but i will definatly take a look at the axle flip and some drop coils. it was brought up earlier that some ways maybe cheaper but i would like it to be safe, and occasionaly the right foot gets heavy. but thank all of you for your imput
