pcv valve need
71 c10, 350, hei, eps man, 1406 carb, hedders going on tomorrow,
Is it ok to disgard the pcv and plug the pcv port on the carb or would this cause problems, run better or worse, I dont have emision requirements, looking to get new valve covers and the ones I like dont have a pcv hole |

No, don't plug it. Keep it. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It keeps air moving through the crankcase and prevent vapors and backpressure from building up. The PCV is not robbing you of any power (one of the FEW emissions pieces that doesn't!).
So for your own sake, keep the PCV and prevent a possible implosion of fumes in your engine (it's been rarely known to happen). |

I can speak from experience here. Once upon a time I pluged my PCV valve with every intention on buying one on pay day.... being the procrastinator that I am I never did. That blow by gas is so caustic that it ruined every single seal and gasket in the engine (valves, front timing cover, rear main...ect ect) every gasket and seal was hard as a rock. I also learned from that how a rubber seal can ruin the shaft that is sealing once it can no longer lubricate it's self I was lucky and was able to use redi sleaves on the shafts. I agree with LHM in his post PCV is your freind.

great thanks, does it matter wich side its on, orig on right side with breather on the left ( if your looking from the fron), when I changed carbs it wouldnt reach so I moved it to the left and breather on the right

El Jay... thanks for digging that up. I was thinking about that the other day and thinking it should be in the FAQ since it comes up once a month or so.
As for what side to put it on, it does not matter at all. As long as you have the PCV valve on one side, and a vent on the other (vent being a tube to the air filter, or a simple breather) that is all that matters. |

Doesn't even need to be in the valve cover. Buick V6 had it in the intake but you need some sort of breather. SBC easiest thing is to choose a valve cover.

71 tahoe, the valve cover is the best location for it, although you are technicly right, it can be placed in the intake.
el jay... I have NFC when I'll be back out that way. I wanna go, but short on vacation days, money, and everything else needed for that kind of adventure. |

I only have 4 vacation days left, until may. Even with a weekend thrown in there, it isn't enough time to haul out and back.
