Why did you spend 300 bones on mirrors and seatbelts if it doesn't run? I'm not trying to be down on you, but you should prioritize what needs to be done. If you want to drive it, focus on what needs to be done for that to happen.

Patience young one, patience. I remember when I was your age... (Do I sound like your dad yet?) Wait. It gets better!!

I didn't have a dad to help me work on my truck. (1974 chevy L.U.V.) Instead, I had a step dad that I watched slowly destroy the PRISTINE 1970 GMC Custom Camper my dad left behind when he died. (I was 10) He didn't care about the truck because he didn't love it. Now it sits in a field in Corpus Christie, slowly rusting to death.

So I don't feel sorry for you. But I do have some advice. I'm basically repeating what someone else has already said. Get a dependable little car like a subaru or something off craig's list for 500 bucks and save on gas while you slowly, lovingly, build that dream you and your dad have together. Don't give your dream up because it's your dad's dream too and he'll have a lot more respect and pride for you if you follow through and show some maturity. Finish what you started, you'll have these memories the rest of your life.

And so will your dad.

Hey Dylan, befriend a mechanic, or one of us old farts at the local carshows. You will be amazed, a friend, a 12 pack ( once you are old enogh) and a few late nights will get your truck up and running in no time.

Hang in there young man..

Yeah, this is the way to go. Forget the patience and buying some beater to drive. Hard work and a good mentor will get you there ASAP. And do it while you can because once you're in school you may not have as much spare time as you think...

You so need a civic or camry something cheap dependable and good on gas. I tried all my high school and community collage years to dd my hot rods it sucks, had a couple 1 am clutch jobs to have a ride in the morning. You will have alot going on with collage life. You don't need to worry if your 40 year old motor/truck will start and make it to school. Thats just asking for uneeded stress. Make it a weekend toy and have fun tinkering with your dad when in the mood.

Just wait...when you find a girl and fall in love, she will make you sell it and buy a mini-van anyway. Life is going to get A LOT harder (I promise), don't sweat wating on your truck to get done, It will if you work at it and have patience. Go work on your truck!!!

I'm with buying a cheap daily driver. Even when you get your truck running, it's great to have a backup plan...

Finding a mentor is also a great idea. There are lots of folks willing to help and teach if you show them a good attitude and a desire to learn. That goes for everything in life, not just fixing trucks.

Everyone here has a frustrating experience with there "love affair" and if they say they haven't, they ar lying! If you can't afford the money and/or time to pick up a beater DD, then ask all your tough questions here so you can get the truck in a driveable condition. I've been there and if you can get a beater, do so because you won't make rash and impatient decisions that will cause you to go back and fix when you are older and wiser.

You can do this, and get her running,, because everyone here remembers when they first fired up their creation...that's what gets you hooked!!

I think you may have overpaid for your belts. I bought these a few years ago and they were even cheaper then, I think I got the 3 points and the center belt/buckle back then for like $70 shipped.

When I was 16 I bought a $400 86 Toyota truck for a winter beater (I lived in NY). It had a 22R and 5 spd. Total rusted out POS but it got me around and I got to enjoy my "baby" from the spring to the fall, until the snow started to fly.

Why does it seem this stuff always pops up after I buy something? Lol. I bought them from LMC and they were 90 or so a pop and then the center belt for another 20... What a rip off...

Oh well, live an learn! I did pick up my new engine today, clean up on it starts tomorrow and then it's going in later this week! Wish me luck!!!

I've posted about the "ebay autoloc belts" quite a few times. I get quite a few PM's about them too from my build thread.

Trust me, I think we've all spent money on certain things on our trucks that we wish we could have back.

I wish I had all the $ I blew on the aftermarket panels, I could have bought a super nice welder and all the panels I needed to fix my factory parts. Glad I kept them, but they will be going back on the truck some day.

Hang in there dude!, I picked up my 70 3/4 in March and have nothing but plans for it. Found out I am going to be a dad in October, and I am smothered with debt at the moment and all I have done to the truck is take the front clip off to get ready for a 5 lug swap. I wanna cry when I see it or the subaru buckets I have for it, but I know that things will smoothen out and I can get back onto it at a later time.

I just remember that I bought it for $400 so it doesn't owe me anything, and it will get worked on when the time is right.
