Help! Engine mount/location question.

I was droping the cab on the new frame but the firewall was hitting the distributor. The engine mounts are from a 65 283 v8. I have a 350 or a 327, not to sure any more. When it was on the lwb gmc frame it fit perfectly using the rear 2 holes. Now this swb chevy frame wont allow it. I then tried moving it forward but only the driver side will bolt up. The passanger side mount holes are to the right of the frame holes. I know it has to do with the frame narrowing at the front. Is there anything I can do or do I have to buy after market mounts?

When I say mounts I mean the metal brakets not the rubber.

Re: Help! Engine mount/location question.

Something sounds a little strange. The '63-'66 V8 frame brackets are meant to be on the two rear holes in the frame and the rear holes in the crossmember. If you try to move them to the forward holes they won't fit. Is your SWB frame of the '63-'66 vintage? Has the frame been modified before you got it? If you absolutely need to move the engine forward, you can use the small block mounts for the '67-'72 trucks. They are designed to mount in the froward sets of holes. I have a set if you need them. I'm not sure why some guys have trouble with an HEI and the engine in the stock location.....I've never had a problem

The holes in the frame and crossmember are the same regardless of the engine. The only motor mount frame brackets that are different are the ones for the 292. The ones for the V8's and the 230 and 250 I6's are all the same

The '67-'72 trucks are pretty much the same as the '63-'66's. As far as the motor mount holes and such they are exactly the same. In the '67-'72 years the V8 (small block) mount brackets are shorter than the motor mount brackets for the '63-'66's in that they position the engine in the forward set of holes.

I would take a good hard look at what is causing your HEI and firewall interference......could be something simple. As I said before, I've never had a problem with HEI's in these trucks hitting the firewall.

Maybe if you could post a few pics of your situation.
