4.8L cam

Bought a cam for my '08 with the 4.8L today. I have gotten really bored with it's performance and find it to be all around slow so it's time to start modding.

Cam specs are 212/218 .522/.529 on 114 LSA I believe. It's Comp Cams XR265, a proven cam great for daily drivers. It's small but I'm not really looking for big numbers, just a little more HP and torque across the curve.

Right now I'm collecting parts for the swap, once it's in I'll get a tune then move on to supporting mods such as a mild converter, long tube headers, intake, gear swap and such.

Anybody have experience with a cammed 4.8L?

Re: 4.8L cam

I dont have any experience with the4.8. But I installed a superchips flashpaq and a magnaflow exhaust on my 5.3 and it runs great. I purchased a s&b cold air kit also but sent it back due to losing some low end torque. I love my 07 so far how do you like your 08.

Re: 4.8L cam

Good to know about the S&B, I'm looking for an intake and this was at the top of the list. I assume that a live tune would make the most out of one though.

I love the truck. Some folks are very opinionated about GMT 900's but I like em just fine. I love the new interior, I am a large guy and the seats and everything just seem to fit me well. Rack and pinion steering also scores points in my book as well as the e-fans and full stainless exhaust.

My only gripes are with the DJM drop kit but that's my fault (or DJM?)

I had an '02 with 5.3L it had K&N 77 series intake, headers, IMCO exhaust, Wait4me tune and it ran great. I want to take it to the next level with this one though.

What model is your '07?

Re: 4.8L cam

Mine is a new body 2007 rcsb with the LT package. It is as loaded you can get for a regular cab. I ran it at the local track with the stock intake verses the s&b and the 60 foot time would slow down as well as the 1/8 mile time. The 1/4 mile time stayed about the same. It probably helped in the horsepower department but it just killed the power off idle. I just run it with stock intake with a drop in K&N filter.
