Yeap! the fenders are bolted in several places to the core support. You might not have to loosen the bolts that hold the fender to the cab, but I haven't tried that before.

Re: Core support removal for 71 P/U
its easier if you take whole front clip off.. and then on mine i had to take a torch to my support and cut the bolts..

Yeah, you would think it would be easy because it's right there in front of you....but if your truck has a lot of rust underneath the hood you could be dealing with rust issues on the support. I had use an angle grinder to eventually cut the bolts off that were inside the body mounts. It too can mean once you start digging you may find other problems that weren't as noticeable too.

Re: Core support removal for 71 P/U
I think I have all the bolts out from the core support and those that hold the inner fenders to the support and very lucky that this truck is not eat up with rust, just surface rust in the bed. Even rubber mounts came off without issues.
I wanted to remove the support to make engine/trans combo easier to take out and one less thing to worry about messing up during the process but I really do not want to unbolt fenders (for some reason...) |
