Fitting for oil pressure line

I bought a new 350 crate motor and went I went to intall the oil pressure line that goes to my stock gauge but found out the connection in the new block is above the oil filter. On my old block the connection was on the top of the block behind the intake manifold and was a different size. Anyone what size fitting I need to run the line down near the filter? I went to NAPA and a few other places and they had no clue. Thanks

Bummer. Nothing like something like that to stop your progress. You may have to make one up - get the fitting for the motor side and use the old fitting for the gauge side, and get a flair tool and put it together. Good luck.

Having never messed with a crate engine, are they metric?

I can run 1/2 tap in the hole so I believe it is standard. I'm sure GM changed over when they went to electric oil senders. I assume all crate motors are this way so I'm hoping someone else went through this when using their stock oil gauge on a crate motor?

With my GMC and now with my Chevy (Chevy does have an aftermarket gauge), the oil pressure pickup was/is 1/* NPT.

Had the same thing on a BBC boat engine and a BB F, F, F, 1 of them blue oval things engine.

I didn't buy acrate motor, but I.m installing a 98 votec (fitting is above filter) and I went to o"reilly and bought a line kit for aftermarket guages. It had different fittings and the new line.

That was supposed to be 1/8" NPT

I checked and I don't think it is there. I checked my old block and see it, but not on the new one. Of course the block is in the truck so it makes it a little harder. Should there be one on the new crate motors? What does the hole by the oil filter do?

From looking at some pics I took before I put the motor in, I think I see where it might be..You might be right, and there might be plug I overlooked...If that is the case, do I have to plug up the hole near the oil filter? I wish these motors can with some instructions. Would be nice to at least have a diagram of what needs to be pluged..I called summit a while back and all they told me was to put a plug in any hole that leaks when you first run it...

I just switched my 71 402 over from sender to gauge and the fitting was just above the oil filter. The fitting to the block was 3/8 I believe but the old sending unit was installed with a 1/8-3/8 reducer. Napa sold me a kit for installation that had all possible combinations for like 9 bucks. Oil gauge works perfectly from that location.

OK, I think I found it. I think I dismissed it as my oil line fitting from my old block would not fit into the hole on the new block, so I thought that hole was for something else. Do I have to plug the hole I see that is on top of the oil filter if I use the hole on top of the motor?

Yeah just go to a auto parts store and find a plug for it and put some thread sealer on it and pop it in. What engine did you get?

I got the 260HP 350 crate motor. I ran the line to hole I found on top of the block and the gauge works now.
