Question Wheel spacer question

Ihave 17x9.5 tt 2's on the rear of my lowered 84 with 275 x 50 rubber . Iwas told when Ibought them Ishould go with 5.5 backspacing , which Idid .

Ihave never been completely sastisfied because ICOULD GO AT LEAST 1 IN WIDER ON BOTH SIDES. Ihave also M T street et's Iput on occasionally & iLIKE THE WAY THEY LOOK BETTER -15 IN. WITH 4.5 BACKSPACING .

Enough for that , question is :
1. do any of you run spacers
2. are they safe
3. one of you some time back gave me a web site for a guy who makes them . Does anyone know this site > I lost it

should have got 4.5 bs on the get go , but oh well

I run spacers on my 77, no issues at all. I got mine from a seller named cjbargains on eBay. Great seller, cheapest I have found. $59 per pair. Includes all lug nuts, they are real nice.

I have the same exact rims with a 275/40 MT et drag radial. I put a 1.75" spacer on mine and the tires sit about .5" from the inner fender. I of course have a stepside though.
I have raced my truck numerous times with the spacers and have plenty of miles on them. I bought them from a place that makes them for 4x4 trucks that off-road and run huge amounts of torque. They were around $100. If your interested I can dig around for the receipt.

Performance wheel and tire. They were $85 each, made of Billet 6061-T6 Al. Included studs and nuts.

Like I said before, the off-road guys recommended them. If they work for them they should certainly work for street use.

I run an adapter. Just put them on today... so far so good.. but there is a vibration around 50mph in the rear. I'm going to retorque them in 50 miles and again at 3000 miles.

Just happened to see this thread......I used 4 on an S10 to correct backspacing 1''. I had 30k on them with no issues....and I hauled all my flagstone in that truck lowered with overload bags in the back. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again....just follow the torque instructions. Its like bolting on heads.

Thanks to all of you for your response.

Ithink I will look at performance wheel . Iactually thought about selling my 17 X 9.5 tt2's with 5.5 bs. & buy a set of the same thing with 4.5 bs . Dont really know what Icould get for mine , & WHAT NEW ONES COST NOW .What I have heard is that they have gone up a lot since I BOUGHT MINE APPROX 5 yr's ago . Iguess Ishould ck. the price on new ones > estimate what Imight get for mine & see if the difference would be a great deal more than 200.00( price for 2 spaceres)

What do yall think ?

I have a pair front (1") and rear (1-1/4") from Performance Wheel & Tire forever and never had any issues (72' C10)

First, I think if you are gonna run a 1" spacer (not an adapter), then you should probably put longer lug studs in the axles. I would. So, factor that into cost. And the trouble of removing axles, and if you are as lucky as I am, then that retaining pin in the rear is gonna break like mine always do in almost every gm rearend that I have everworked on.
Second, if you aren't too much out of pocket--I would buy new wheels. Then you can get a deeper, wider wheel that really want.

I got mine from Fred Goeske at wheeladapter who manufactures them to your specs if needed.

Stock studs are a sliver under 1", the 1" spacers bolt to the existing studs, and the spacers themselves have new studs installed on them.

You only need to put longer studs in when using a spacer less than 1" thick.


I am telling you guys, you can get cheaper spacers, same quality as the more expensive ones (I have used both), from cjbargains on ebay. The only catch, he only sells 1" and 1.5"
