72' 6" lift and trans change over

I lifted my 72' stepside 6"s and went from a 3 spd on the column to a 350turbo. Boy have i ran into problem after problem. Alot of the problem was me just not knowing what all i was going to have to change. The lift kit had 1" spacers to drop the cross member for a better angle on the drive shaft. This spacer will not work, my distributor is against the fire wall, tight and the fan is against the fan shroud at the top. So i took the spacers out and bolted the cross member against the frame. Is this going to put the drive shaft @ to bad of an angle? Or can i cut the brackets off the rearend and turn it up for a better angle? The cross member being against the frame made all the motor components back right. Or can i leave the spacers out and not move the rear end up, i just don't want to be tearing up u-joints?

Thanks ahead of time for any advice!!!!

Your rear driveshaft angle probably won't be a problem. If it is, yes you can cut the spring pads off and change the pinion angle. Does your front driveshaft have a CV joint?

the front shaft is new with a cv joint, and looks to be pretty flat.

Re: 72' 6" lift and trans change over

Well that didn't work the cv joint is hitting the cross member. I am going to try to put 1" spacers between the cross member and the bracket that it bolts to between the tc and trans, this will hold up the motor and trans where it needs to be. Then put the 1" spacers that came with the lift kit between the cross member and the frame. Do yall think that will work, lower the cross member 1" and hold the motor up where it is supposed to be?

If it will work, then i will worry about angle maybe with shims, but probably cut spring brackets.

Thanks for the info!!!

Re: 72' 6" lift and trans change over

I put a 6" Skyjacker lift in my blazer. The front springs have a 2 1/2 degree shim. I am still using the stock driveshaft with no problems. It has the factory cv joint. In the rear I shimmed the pinion up and added a cv joint as well. If I remember correctly when running a cv joint the pinion should same angle as the driveshaft, minus 2 or 3 degrees for axle wrap under load. Are the th350 crossmembers different from the 3spd? The blazer has a shorter wheelbase than the shortbeds so I wouldn't think you would have any problem. Maybe the crossmember is the difference. (I didn't drop my crossmember by the way)

The cross member i am using is the one from under the 3-spd manual. And it may need to be different but that is the only one i have.

I've never had a 3spd setup. I'm sure someone that has could tell you if they are different. If they are it should be easy to find a th350 crossmember.
