Wondering if anyone can tell me the length of the driveshaft on a 70 shortbox. i tried searching but apparently driveshaft is not a valid search word! any help would be appreciated.

Just long enough to go from the axle to the transmission or transfer case.

I think Dave from early classic had told me 58" from u joint to u joint.

what engine?
what tranny?
short or long shaft tranny?
is the engine in the correct location?

Here is the only on I know.... small block... correct location... TH350 with the short tail shaft, 69 SWB W/coils, 4 foot 10 inches.

Does that make a difference between 1 or 2 piece driveshaft setups?

a one piece shaft is a straight line, a 2 piece is not always straight

What are you trying to do or know besides the obvious question? My '68 had a 2 piece but it was basically a one piece with a slip yolk. It will be different based on the motor/trans combo. When I went from a 250/granny 4 speed to my BBC and M-22, the original 2 piece driveline was long enough for me to cut down and now I have a "Sherman Tank" approved one piece!!

I too had a 2-piece driveshaft for my '69 SWB. I am using a driveshaft from a '72 Chevelle right now, but its too short to be safe.

Do you guys think 2.5" tubing will be strong enough for a 57" long driveshaft? I am not making a ton of power, maybe 300 to the wheels. Although I might be in the 400 range in the future.

Just need to remember that the longer the driveline and the heavier the vehicle, the stronger the driveline needs to be! Mine is pictured by a 1st gen Camaro driveline.

I wouldn't ask a bunch of guys online. I'd ask a drive shaft shop. They're the ones that'll (with any luck) need to replace it if you twist it and drop it in the street. As far as I know, we only have one guy on here that works in a drive shaft shop, and he hardly ever speaks up on the topic, so the reality is, you have a couple guys with a pretty good idea, a handfull with good educated guesses, and a bunch of guys with absolutly no idea.

What? Exhaust tubing is the one of best things to make a driveshaft out of, almost as good as galvanized fence posts.....

My boy is only 15 mo old and I have an 11 yr old daughter. She is into horses and I'm gunna get him into horsepower so hopefully they will stay clear of the crap.
