Read this thread even though most of you may not live in Cali, I don't...... But this may happen in other states----including yours. Dave

Amen to that, they all got their heads up there........
in the clouds (thought I was going to say something else?) I wouldn't do that. They better not want a better life after the war is over because they don't deserve it. Dave

I hope they don't pass that for sure!! Here in Texas it's 25 and older are exempt. One more time this year to pass and I'm home free. I hope they don't start sending ideas this way

that will never fly. 45 years ago was 1958, that was like 15 years before people even started thinking about smog. no way they will pass something that ridiculous.

The only problem I've got w/them implementing this is the goal should be cleaner air, PERIOD, without all the 'red tape' & BS rules.
During the 60's & leaded fuel era, the 'powers that be' weren't worried about todays air quality. There are other ways to make our cars/trucks run clean(er) and still make the power we all want without being restricted by rules that are outdated. I feel REGULARLY driven vehicles, NO MATTER WHAT YEAR MODEL, should not be gross polluters. I also feel as long as it burns cleaner than what the regulations call for (that year model) it shouldn't matter what you do under the hood. You want to install a twin turbo in your 82 year model vehicle?? No prob, as long as you pass the sniffer. No cats, or maybe you want true duals on your 87?? No prob, as long as you pass the sniffer. The goal should be cleaner air. Human beans are a creative lot, & as car crafters we sometimes know our machinery a little better than the bureaucrats making the laws. Bring on the chassis loaded sniffer tests but don't worry about the big block thats under my hood. . . ... falls off of soap-box.

nothing against Californians but thank god Oklahoma is far from that liberal hellhole. To many Naderites for me. If LA had been built in a good spot rather than in a valley that holds all the smog in the city there would be nowhere near as many issues. As for up north in San Fran. thats like a different world with some of its weird laws.

66 & older exempt in Arizona
In Arizona all vehicles 67 & newer have to be tested every year. I drive to Long Beach, Ca. about once a month. The air looks cleaner in the L.A. area than the "brown cloud" hanging over Phoenix. My Camaro is a 94 with 185,000 miles. It has never had the 30,000 service done yet. It just passed at 1/4 of the allowed levels. It seems to me a vehicle with good exhaust & a normal tune up will fly right threw. We all want more power & adjusting what we already have can get 10 to 20 HP more than a poorly tuned engine. Are emission laws "big brothers" way of telling us to keep our cars running good so we can see the most gains from our horse power upgrades?

I think they should leave the 30 year rolling exemption in CA...that way, come January 1st, my truck will become exempt and it'll be REAL fun.
Smog is lame anyway, who CARES what's under the hood, it's what is coming out of the tailpipe anyway! As a joke, my cousin took his 67 Mustang (stroked 351, Wieand 6-71 blower, on alcohol) into the smog shop, said he just wanted to see what it would put out at the tailpipe..AMAZINGLY, it put out less than a freakin honda!!! |

Doesn't alcohol burn cleaner than gas anyway?? I certainly do agree with the laws being too stiff..I think it will get bad up here too, actually in King county WA they are pretty bad (not as bad as Cali) every other year you have to be tested.

I've always heard alcohol was considered an 'alternative' fuel, thus making it exempt from emissions. I remember this being the reason some west coast street racers switched to this so their later model cars would pass emissions (not to mention it runs cooler).
