horn

ok so the horn on my truck doesn't work cuz the switch in the steering wheel is broke...so what color is the wire to the horn and where is it located cuz i wanna hook it up to a momentary switch...ive realized not having a horn kinda sucks cuz now i gotta rev my engine to get ppls attention...witch is just a waste of gas lol thanks every one and this forum is awsome

its a black wire thats wired in a pigtail for the turn signal and hazards under the steering column behind the metal access panel

I do the same damn thing! Not safe revving the engine either!

ok i think i found it...so do all i have to do is cut it and then hook it up to a switch and 12v power

the horn wire is hot, so you'll need a horn button every part store should have one for a couple of bucks and a ground wire

hey dude DONT CUT THE COLLUMN WIRE
jsut run a new one!
ive done that with mine and i have a "stomp switch" below my e-brake cable..
super simple wiring man.. just make sure you run it off a fuzed powersource...(like radio etc)
do not do not do not NO MATTER WHAT cut the wiring on yrou steering collumn.... it's a serious pain in the ass to fix for people who are "new" to it

as i recall the parts kit is relitivley inexpensive..

p.s. stomp switches are cool as hell! because you can just stopm the crap out of your horn! instead of puncin your steering wheel!

well if my truck was together i would take a picture..
it's simple.. you MIGHT have to make a bracket for the new switch.. i maze mine out of a "z" shaped peice of aluminum it connects to the side and the floor of my cab right below my ebrake...
i ran a FUsED positive wire to the terminal on the momentary switch
then run the ground wire to the horn blade connector

the horn is self grounding to the truck itself..
OH if you are having horn issues pull and sand the connection between the horn and the fender where it is attached..
super simple "series" circuit... just remember to use a fuse. that "hot wire" can run a chance of shorting and burning your truck to the ground..

p.s. after all is said and done you can use someblack RTV on the back side of the momentary switch to make absolutely sure it dosent touch the cab floor whenevver you hit it..
you can also use it in different locations.. but i just have a undying love for a stomp switch

the stop switch will probly be something i get later cuz im almost broke so right now im just gunna have to use a small momentary switch i have laying around

they are under 10 bucks at radio shack..
but if you ahve power to the switch.. and no sound at the horn.. do a voltage check at the horn connector (u can use a test light)
press the horn button and see if it illuminates..
if it does.. pull your horn off the fender and sand the bolt location so you have a fresh ground

lol the closet radio shack is like an hour away lol and i pulled the fuse to the horn cuz the switch in the steering wheel just broke one day and wouldn't stop honking so i ripped all the horn stuff out of the steering wheel and yet it still honked every time i turned left so i pulled the fuse
