A/C compressor Pro6Ten ?

Anyone running the new Sanden based Pro6Ten compressor ? If so , any pics of one installed ? I need a comp for my 77 long bed and was wondering how this new compressor does on R134 . I thought about using the new comp and changing the condenser to a newer style . My stock system converted to 134 is not very efficient .

On my '75 GMC I used parts from Arizona Mobile Air to make the conversion. They had a new Seltec compressor (TM-15HD, I think), and sold one piece mounting bracket for my '75 SBC 350 engine. I also used one of their universal parallel flow condensers.

Some downsides to this arrangement:
- Compressor is in original location and drive belt is even a little longer than stock. They had to include an idler pulley to keep the belt stable.
- All condenser mounts had to fabricated (fairly easy to do).
- All hoses had to be fabricated, using non-stock ends in most cases. I was lucky to find a patient A/C shop with some time to measure and make hoses.
- The A/C shop was also patient in finding a new accumulator that had a slightly different orientation on the fittings, which worked better with the hose routing.
- A/C shop also added a fitting for the high pressure cutoff switch.

Good points:
- Compressor is dramatically lighter than the old A6.
- With a Ford blue orifice and charged at 75% of R12 charge, I can get 35 degree vent temps at ambient temp of 85-90 degrees.

That is good to know . The Pro6Ten is lighter also , states it mounts directly to the mounts for an A6 , and is supposed to be a Sanden compressor in a case that allows it to be installed in place of the A6 . It even uses the same hose mounting so the factory hoses will work . I was just wondering if anyone has used this new direct replacement comp yet .

hey frank,you don't mean like my sanden that i have on my vintage air system do you?i think mines a sanden 508 something?work's great and is small and polished though.

Dont you hate that the compressor covers almost the entire valve cover? i need a new one as well and was wondering if there wasnt a way to use a shorter one like the one 75gmck25 was talking about but without the need for mods. My cousin put AC on his 78 c10 a few years ago and his compressor is short, a little bigger than the alternator and is completely out of the way. is it possible to run one of those compressors without having to change the entire AC system?

The Pro6Ten is suppose to be the 508 internals in a direct bolt in case .Seems like it would be built for 134a and would live better with the 134 than the old A6. I think one is in my future and I am looking at different GM condensors to see if I can find one that will come close to bolting in place of the factory unit . I think the cond. is the weak link on a 134a conversion . The new compressor is $345 for a brand new non polished unit .

I just bought a new 16x26 aluminum parallel flow condenser on eBay. Me and my dad were going to look for a stock part that might work but for the $110 it cost it was easier just to order this one. It'll need some brackets to adapt it to the stock mounting holes and it will need some hard lines made to go through the radiator support, but it looks like a good start. Just received it today. Hopefully it works well.
