LMAO...That reminded me of when I was a kid. We had a big ol Chrysler wagon that had rear facing seats. Really messes with your perception when you ride backwards.

my parents had a 97 sable wagon (now my 198,000 mile daily driver) and now have an '01 taurus wagon....both with the 8 passenger setup where the rear floor flips up into a very thin seat back. it makes the car very dual purpose and you can use the cargo floor to hide valuables when the seat is not up. the sable gets up to 34mpg w/ the base vulcan engine, handles great, features standard 4 wheel disc (sho's are usually the only sedans that get them), has a cavernous cargo area with the passenger seats folded down, and is very smooth and quiet on the highway. it's the most versatile vehicle besides my 72 burb and extremely practical for daily driver duties when you don't need the capabilities of a truck and need to beat the again rising gas prices.

there is no direct bolt in rear facing position.

you'd have to cut a chunk out of the wood floor to have that feature.....and cross members and a fuel tank are in the way!

hey Longhornman.....that was a sweet looking burb before you put that hodgepodge 68 nose on it....it just needed a chrome bumper.....hope you kept the original parts! the 67/68's are nice with the slanted hood but i like the 71-72 w/ the blue bow tie in the grille the best on these trucks and i wouldn't bother changing anything from how it originally came (well....i don't like the bow tie on the front of the hood on the 69/70).

and I think the 71 - 72 is almost as ugly as a square body truck. I couldn't wait to throw that stuff away.

Well looks like plenty of room...just a matter of weather or not the bolt holes line up. If it's one bolt in front and one in back and they are symetrical it should work but I am not the one to ask on that. Look at the seat brackets. Even if the bolt holes don't line up, you could fab something. You might need to add a little reinforcement. As for the debate on which nose looks better....I used to think the '71-'72 looked better but now I'm partial to the '69-'70. Funny how that works when you have one....it grows on you.

If the bracket holes are symetrical front to back on the seat, where the seat bolts to the brackets, maybe you coud just "turn" the seat around provided there is enough legroom behind the 3rd seat now.

You mean turn the seat around on the brackets and leave the brackets where they are? I hadn't thought of that but it seams like a good idea unless there is an angle/rake to the brackets to tilt the seat back a little. If there is you would have to keep your seatbelt on to keep from sliding out of the seat.

all the angle is in the seat brackets, they bolt to a flat piece of ply wood.
I'll have to look into it next time I'm out at the garage. I was just kinda wondering if anyone had done this.

I had thought of this a few years ago, but didn't do it.

The bolt holes will not line up, they are not in the same position.

Has for modifing it, the trick is that it will either need to bolt into the frame or crossmember to be safe....but it wouldn't be too hard to drill it out with the right tools, just make sure to use grade 9 bolts.

If it doesn't line up exactly, think about using some construction grade electical strut to bridge between the rails, it might just squeeze in.
