Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

I would stick to either a Bell Tech or DJM spindle up front with Moog ball joints. I you are running 15" wheels you will want to stick with the two inch drop spindle, otherwise get the three inch - you'll be happy you did. In the back I would just go to a flip kit but that might be a little more drop than you are looking for.

Welcome to the forum Navy Lalor. Chuck is offering good advice. If you don't want to run a flip kit in the rear, you can use a shackle for now.

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

how cheap do you want to do it a cut coil in the front which equals 2" drop, and for the back you could raise the spring hangers by removing the rivets and raise both hangers up 2" and replacing them with grade a 8 hardware, and for a little more money instead of messing with hangers there's 2" drop shackles and removing a few leafs from the pack

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

ha well i mean were talking a low rank navy income here...but yea fifteens in front so a two inch would be good ...i want it pretty damn low yet still able to clear dips(going slow still) becuase on the base of coronado there are many dips especially entering the gate that will just rip apart a fender......i was thinking about a flip kit though its basically a truck that i brought out from minnesota that i want to really put in the time with it at my dads house in LA iwill try getting up pics asap

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

i would say cut the springs in the front. then in the rear i would say take out two leafs on both sides and buy lowering shackles. as for ball joints when i did mine i just bought them from napa, they where like 50 bucks or somthing like that.

I agree with the masses here. To do it on the cheap cut a coil. But, you can get 2" drop springs from Summit for pretty cheap. Here is a link. The summit brand are just Ground Force brand. Great ride too. Cheaper then a spindle.

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

ok so i will look into the ground force coils ...now in the rear if i take out two leaf springs and buy lowering shackles will i lose a good ride....as for the ball joints yes i already planned on just going to napa for that.......after all this is over with ...i will move onto the engine ..more then likely since its a daily driver just a 350 crate and a t350 from B&N shifters for 950 unless i can find a cheaper deal on a new tranny ...ha then its time for changing my bench seat into some low rise seats from a mid 70's blazer with a hammer shifter

Does this effect the pinion angle at all ??

I use photobucket for posting pictures. Upload them and paste the image URL's.

Im curious to see what you do, I want to lower my truck and Im still undecided on what to go with....

From what I have read you can go 3'' drop spindles with 15'' rims you just need to get out the grinder

Looking forward to pictures.

From what I have read, the aftermarket drop perch alters the pinion angle...

Im assuming if you moved both perches equally it wouldnt matter ??

LOL

Thanks

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

This is what Im wondering about...

We did probably six or seven trucks in the 70's and 80's timeframe. All were done by cutting the coils on the front and relocating the spring hangers on the frame rail in the rear.

This first one was a 4" drop on the front (cut two coils) and a 6" drop on the rear (the rear was quite high to start with). Relocating the hangers constitutes 3" of that, and then I also removed a couple leafs if I remember right. Wheels are the factory aluminum, 15x7 (don't remember the offset) and the tires were an LR60-15 Goodyear.

Similar situation on this one but I didn't go down as far (...I got more conservative as I got older...). Cut one coil for a 2" ish drop, still went the full 3" on the rear. Wheels are a 15x8 truck rally (zero offset) with P235/75R15's all the way around.

Here's how the spring hanger relocation works. You cut the rivets holding the hangers and replace them with 3/8 grade 8 bolts (removing the pickup box helps with this part). Moving the bottom holes of the bracket into the top hole of the frame nets the 3" drop. Total investment at that time was around $1.38 for the bolts and $25 for a front end alignment. This particular truck has been a daily driver for 22 years with no issues.

Looks like its the best way to do it Cheap !

if you move both hangers equally the pinion angle should not change....

Re: lowering kits for 84 chevy c10

so seeing my father doesnt have the space or tools right now to help me lower(moving to new house) i cant do this on my own

so i went to 4wheel auto and got a quote from them...lowering in the front 2 and around 3 in the rear.....1300 dollars with military discount for parts and install......that doesnt even include me putting in new ball joints....tie rods and needing new shocks

NEW DELIMA.....am trying to get auto insurance seeing mine expires tommorow....trying through USAA for military yet when i went on for a quote..it said i didnt meed the california good driver ..so it wont give me a quote..although it listed Failure to yield twice from my car accident two years ago..so i have to see how i can get that taken off
