Gas Tank question

i have a bit of a dilemma and figured you guys might be able to help. My '70 Longhorn has the tank behind the seat, and I've never been hot on that idea. My '72 Organ donor has the same thing, but, also has a reserve tank on it. I cant tell how big it is (anyone know?) since i don't have the box off yet and haven't had time to remove the tank yet. The fill for the reserve tank is in the drivers side wheel well.

My question is has any one ever converted a tank like this to be the primary and what does it take to do it such as will it work properly with the fuel gauge and so on. I have no issue having the fill in the wheel well, but would consider modifying it a side fill.

Re: Gas Tank question

That`s an aftermarket saddle tank. You can run a fuel line directly from that tank to the fuel pump. You need a float/sending unit wired to the fuel gauge. It`s hard to say exactly what that tank holds.I`d guess about 12-15 gallons.
