getting a radio out/in - 1970 c10
title says it all.
my radio is not radio-ing and my speaker is not speaking. No lights no nuthin. Could it be all that country western my dad played on it before I got it? The fuse appears alright. But how do you get to it? From underneath the heater control, ignition, some tubes for the ventilation, and a metal bracket all seem to be in the way of getting to the radio. Does all that need to come out? Please help |

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that the original radios had a fuse in the actual radio.
It might be that after all that country western that the radio decided it was all too much and went to the big parts warehouse in the sky. I would detach the radio from the front and see if you cant finese it down and out.

IIRC, you have to either remove the heater controls, or the glovebox, in order to remove the radio from the dash.

Re: getting a radio out/in - 1970 c10
Just wrestled with my AM radio. I took off the duct hose, heater controls, ash tray AND glove box. I still think it amazing that with a truck with so much room behind the dash, it was still a lot of fooling around to get the radio in and out. My power comes off the fuse block from the RADIO connector.

Best way is to take out the glove box. You can get it in and out that way without having to touch the heater controls or the ashtray bracket. It's hard to kill one of these radios. They do die, but most of them live forever. I would check the connections and ground first.

Re: getting a radio out/in - 1970 c10
That's good news. I've had the glove box out before. It was straigt forward enough but took a bit of finagling to get it done. I hope that's true about my radio. I'm fairly handy with electronics but this might be more than I want to tackle. And I've heard it's fairly expensive to get them fixed.

Probably cheaper to find a replacement than it would be to get an AM repaired. They are always on eBay and if you take your time, you can find a good deal on one. Take a whack at yours first, it's always more fun to say "I got that thing working again!"
