What type of TH 350 do I need ??
Hi,
I picked up a 1982 C10 shortbed but w/o engine and transmission... Now I´m not quite sure, what kind of th350 I should get ...? Short tail or long tail ??? I have a 1984 longbed with a short shaft th350 and a segmented driveshaft, - but the short wheelbase has a "normal driveshaft".... thanks for you input.... Rob

short tail was stock for short bed th350. Long beds usually get long tail shafts with one piece driveshafts. If two piece driveshaft its usually short tail.

Re: What type of TH 350 do I need ??
I have a 82 C-10 SWB and the Trans is a TH350C with a 9 inch tailshaft and one piece driveshaft. That is what you need. You can use the TH350 or the TH350C the difference is regular torque converter or the lock up type that is in the TH350C.
Do you have the driveshaft? If so measure it and let me know what the tube length is. I can tell you what will work with it.

we have an 84 short bed with a long tail and 1 piece DS and we also had a 76 short bed with a 3 speed on the tree, which a short tail th350 would have fit in place. measure your driveshaft and post the length of it that could help alot. or tell us what it had in it before.

Looks like we are all in agreement TH350c or regular th350 with a 9 inch tailshaft.

Re: What type of TH 350 do I need ??
Yo! The long tailshaft seals the end of the tranny and contains the gears for the speedo. If you have a transfercase, IT seals the end of the short tailshaft tranny and the speedo gearing comes off of the tcase.
You'll need a one piece driveshaft and long tailshaft tranny for a two wheel drive truck. Todd.

Re: What type of TH 350 do I need ??
well okay - so I need to get a long shaft (9") TH 350 then...
Today I measured the driveshaft as some of you suggested .... 140 cm from u-joint to u-joint that`s ~ 55" ! Will this work with a 9" th 350 ? (Just to make sure...) thank y`all Rob

Hey Rob, wouldn´t it be smart to get an th700r4 or 4l60e tranny to get better mileage? What engine do you plan to throw in that truck?

Don`t get me wrong the TH700 is a very good transmission, - but I love th400s and Th350s... And I think they work better with EFi cars and trucks not carbureted ones...?! Rob
