Will a '69 Chevy fender work on a '72 GMC?

I have a '69 rust free fender that came with my truck when I bought it a few months ago. Several people have told me it will work on my '72 GMC K25, others have told me it will not work. What is different about them? It looks the same just looking at them. The original is still on the truck so I cannot lay them side by side for camparison. Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Will a '69 Chevy fender work on a '72 GMC?

Not taking marker lights into account, there are two style of fenders.

Style 1:
67-72 GMC are all the same with the exception of the 67 having no side marker hole.
67-68 Chevy are the same as the GMC fenders, with that side marker hole exception.

Style 2:
69-72 Chevy fenders are the same.

PS - the difference is in the very front of the fender, as you look at it head on. The GMC and early Chevy incorporates the grille into the fender. The later Chevy has the front end recessed so that the grille can fit over the front of the fender.

Correct, like mentioned earlier look at the very front of the two fenders, the chevy will have a recess and the GMC will not. Might be harder to see with the grill installed. If you do a search you will find some pictures.

Re: Will a '69 Chevy fender work on a '72 GMC?

69-72 chevy style you can see where the grill fits over the fender

(bad pic- I know)
and the 67-68 chevy/67-72 GMC style, you can see where the grill sits inside the fender

technically the 67 would not have the marker light as already said.

but you should be able to spot the difference in the front of the fenders.
hope it helps

Re: Will a '69 Chevy fender work on a '72 GMC?

no problem.

The fender will physically fit on the truck, all the fender mounts are the same.
just the grill might not look right or fit at all depending on what grill and fender you are running.

I've seen alot of these trucks with mis-matched fenders, including mine. lol.( not anymore- now I got the 1-Pc front in my avatar...)
I have a GMC, and GMC pass fender, but chevy driver's side. It did look a little funny with that front edge sticking out on the driver's side though.

so it'd fit, just look crappy....
