edel 1406 on quadrajet intake

i need some help i searched but couldn't find my specific problem. i just changed out my quadrajet for a edel 1406 and used a adapter, anyhow i got it running and sometimes it seems to hang the throttle open. i don't have a tach but somewhere between 1500-2000. almost like a high idle. and when driving doesn't seem to downshift if i am driving 40 and let off the gas it just stays at that speed and doesn't kickdown. i am thinking maybe the trans kickdown and throttle is binding anyone else have this problem and how did you fix it? also it is a 72 so it has the throttle cable.thanks in advance-joe

Almost sounds like something is rubbing/binding on the adapter?
Did you bend the kick down cable bracket to match the stock location?

Got a picture(s)?

You might want to take the carb and the adapter off, then look for any shiney and burn spots on the adapter, carb base, and the gaskets.

When you say "quadrajet" intake....do you mean a factory chevy intake or a spread bore intake? Just want to clarify.

did you by the spectre adapter at your local Kragen, schuks, etc etc? Because I bought the same one and it interfered with the throttle plates, I had to grind down the plastic adapter with my dremel in each throttle passage just a little bit to keep it from binding

Re: edel 1406 on quadrajet intake

yeah it is the stock intake and i bought the adapter from autozone, it is the one with the red plastic inserts for spread and aquare bore, i used the one with the four holes as per the instructions from edelbrock, the thing is i haven't found any other way to mount the cables but they do look off by maybe a 1/4 inch. so i agree they are probably binding but i don't have any idea how to fix it.

i'll go outside and take some pictures, i just understood what you are saying and that makes sense because when i move the cables they don't free up so it might be something inside

yep Had that problem Its the red plastic insert in the silver metal housing, just grind down each bore a little bit all the way around (NOT WITH IT ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD!!!!) and it won't bind up anymore

hey mikajo, thanks it was confusing to me because i couldn't find anything on the outside that would make it bind. i will try to grind it out tomorrow at work, also did you use the stock clamps for the throttle and kickdown? that is what i am using and just bent them as close as possible. thanks again-joe
