LS motors

I was visiting a friend the other day and talking about my truck and he offered me two LS motors. I asked how much, and he said for free. I went to his shop and picked them up. One is a 5.3 and the other is the 6.0. They are both out of 2005 vans. I scored. I'd like to use the 6.0 in my truck with the carb setup. Does anybody have any advice or experience on how to build a 6.0 for out trucks.

Re: LS motors

Thanks for the link to the article. I had read their article for the first part of the build. Those numbers are crazy. I don't know that the second phase is a better option than the first phase of their build. The stock heads with GMPP hot cam made more torque down low and solid hp at 5400. The second phase lost down low and gained over horse and torque at revs over 5500 rpm. Which is better for the street? The first or the second?

Re: LS motors

the first one is better for the street the more torque down low the better on the street that is
if i ever build one its going to be a street strip engine and i will go with the second combo
my buddy has a 6.0 in hs 01 camaro it does fine on the street with ls6 heads and intake it has a 4000 stall converter and hauls some serious a$$
it gets 17 mpg but it FI
its a 3400 pound car and runs 7.29s in the eighth

Re: LS motors

Go LS! You will NOT be disappointed! The swap is not cheap, but compared to carb swap, you got the motors free, you will be WAY ahead of the game. You will love it!

Re: LS motors

I'd like to run the second combo with a 3.73 gear a TH400 and a 2800 stall. I have all that in the garage unused for a different setup I was going to build. Will this perform well on the street? The truck will be mostly street use with about 2 or 3 trips to the track a year. I was also contemplating adding a gear vendors overdrive unit like they did in the Hot Rod 73 pickup 6.0 build. Thanks for your help!

Re: LS motors

Sounds good to me. The 2800 stall will help it out a little down low too, not that it will need it, but just in case. Thanks for all of your advice. Thats is probably the route I am going to take.
