72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
I was wondering if this pattern is available to recover my bench seat. The pattern extends into the door panels and would look odd with anything else.........

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
That is a reupholstered seat. The lower end original trim package vinyl bench seat cover for 1972 would have the pattern shown on the door panel in the place where the driver and passenger sits on the seat. The seat pattern shown isn't the same as the door panel. It's similar but not the same or what it should be.
Is that a 1 option SPID stick you have there ????

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
I agree with the above post. Believe the pattern isn't stock.

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
Ask KNS Models.I don`t know if I got his name exactly right, but you can find it in the member`s list with that. That pattern is darn close if it`s not correct. That basket weave looks about the same to me.

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
I am also looking for the correct seat cover for a '72. Mine still has the original and has tears in the drivers side only. I have been looking for a while and have not came up with anything. I wish I could find one the correct one but I am thinking it isn't still avaliable and doubt it is reproduced.
Here is a pic of mine and a link to the full size pic for more detail. This is the seat cover you should have. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2108...52655310SymIae Last edited by grancuda; 07-13-2009 at 11:52 AM. |

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
I suppose that would be rare! No, I just figured the trim option would help. The pattern is at the driver/passenger locations, the center of the seat is where the steering wheel shadow is.
Thanks for the replies. I bought the truck from a car lot in '86 and always thought it odd that the seat was in such good condition. What grancuda says makes sense. Are your door trim panels the same as mine? BTW, the link is not working.

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
SMS has the base model vinyl for my Chevy. I can't quite tell from the photo if it's the same as GMC, but if not they probably have what you're looking for. The Chevy stuff is $75 a yard for the seating areas and $49 a yard for the side material.

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
I fixed the link.
My door panels are the same as the pic you posted of yours. The seat pattern in different from a Chevrolet, and it is not a sewn design, it is all 1 piece of material/vinyl with the pattern stamped in it. |

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
No you didn't. Anyways, I just wanted to know if the door panels were the same. I had a look at SMS site, might be helpful. May have to be custom made, the basketweaves that they list are Chrysler copies. Still lookin'...............

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
Now it is fixed, I just linked it to the page instead of the enlarged image, you can zoom on it with some of the icons below the image.

Re: 72 GMC Vinyl Seat Pattern
Look into finding the basket weave pattern stamped into black vinyl VW bug seats in the early-mid 70's.
I had a '72 convertble bug when it was new, & by my feeble old memory, that pattern is a dead-on match. I'm pretty sure that pattern is still available in yard goods from upholstery shops. |
