Gas mileage on my 06 1/2 ton 4/4 Silverado

I towed a 6 by 12 u-haul trailer loaded and togeather with my truck it all weighed a little over 10,000 lbs ..I weighed it axle by axle at a truck weighing stop near me .

I traveled to Southern California over Mt Solo and the miles was right at 1000 miles

I got 13 miles to the gallon

Comming home I had no trailer ,,but did have about 700 lbs extra and I got between 18 and 19 miles per gallon.. never went over 75 milles an hour except coasting down Mt Solo @ about 80 miles and hour ..

I guess my thoughts are that no weight or 700 lbs of weight ,,same gas miliage ,,you think ?

Just sharing for what ever it is worth Gopapa Larry

Re: Gas mileage on my 06 1/2 ton 4/4 Silverado

I get 11mpg or so when I tow my boat (100 miles round trip) to the lake. I normally get around 14 around town and 17-18 highway. Back when I could get "real gas" year round (they got the E10 stuff everywhere now) I used to get a solid 15 around town and 18-19 highway.

Your numbers sound right. My boat weights about what your load did, buy my trip to the lake is full of stop and go, lots of hills and 45mph speed limits.

Re: Gas mileage on my 06 1/2 ton 4/4 Silverado

I seen a change in my gas milage when I stop useing Walmart gas and switched to Shell before I was getting 19 to 20 now 22 using 87 octaine. Now I have a 99 5.3L extended cab 2 wheel drive all stock and not hauling anything just driving it 60 miles a day average speed 70 75 all highway. I base my nubers on 18 to 19 gal of gas. I was thinking if I changed the breather and changed the fan to electric if that might help.

I wonder if doing so would throw the brain into a stroke ,, I am not sure what can be modified in these new trucks that are schooled to every belch and fart that the motor makes concerning smooth eficient rumnning ?? dont know ,,just saying ..Gopapa larry
