roadster PU top kits?
Got to thinking about a soft or removable top on a 82 PU, it could be stored in the bed under the tonneau cover. I am a retired certified welder so that is not an issue.
Any kit sources out there? Tips/experiance? Yay or nay?? Last edited by dgas; 07-14-2009 at 08:56 AM. Reason: spelling |

Re: roadter PU top kits?
hm that would be kinda cool, if you made one for a desent price i would be interested.. so i could have some shade while shooting from the back of my PU.. without having to put a terribley huge camper on it
it would be neat to have a "safari" top that i can bolt on and off, or remove with cotterpins/clips, or retaining pins... u have any ideas?

Re: roadter PU top kits?
I was starting to think about a blazer top to modify, I have one out back Or a kit if I can find one. If I have to make one from scratch I would probably chop the windshield 3".

Re: roadster PU top kits?
I'm not aware of any company making such a product, I think you're on your own. I don't think a soft top is going to look all that good. I also think that reusing the original roof is going to be a necessity. You'll have to weld the tops of the doors to the roof to make it work right.

Re: roadster PU top kits?
I saw a couple at the nats a few years ago,but at the time i was into Street rods. If they were not kits, they were a VERY well done job. Looked kind of kool w a carson top look. But my memory is not what it used to be. Sometimes it is a bit on the rosy side. I also thought about using blazer doors.

Try www.usbodysource.com
scan down the left side of the page until you find "73-87 chevy trucks" click there and scan down the center about 1/3 of the way for pics of a chick lifting the roof off. The part # & prices are the 3rd & 4th on the left at the top of that page But it is for the CAB & TOP NOT JUST THE TOP

Re: roadster PU top kits?
I KNOW I am going to get flamed for saying this but AIM ind. Chassis Tech made (makes?) their line of Ratical top kits. Hey remember rodney. Their kits are available two ways:
1) was a set of plastic pieces that allowed you to make a removable hard top out of your cabs roof section cut right above the windshield frame and below the back window. they work ok but the last one I did I removed the plastic pieces about two years later and welded in steel. The plastic left like a 3/4" border along the seams. The steel was blended and body finished to give a seam more like a door seam. 2) they also made a full canvas replacement top with a folding frame and bows that operated like a standard convertible car top. Now I know the company and it's owner Joe have taken a beating on the internet and various forums. I will not comment on others claims but as a Chassis tech dealer from 1999 to 2006 I did not have a single issue with their parts or service and actually had very good experiences with Ed my rep.
