Now I know how much to save for mine! They are the only things that are truly trashed on my truck.

Glad I read your post because I was looking at aftermarket panels myself.

Now with these GM rockers, can you just go up to the parts counter and order them? Im at that stage in the build up that I need to purchase them. With my 1940 Chevy, I bought 4 other trucks and fabricated a few of the body panels. However, with the 67-72 trucks I cannot see any way to do this. ( at least with the rocker panels).

You guys should check out www.gmpartsdirect.com. They have good prices but sometimes shipping can kill you. At least you can find what is available and the part numbers.

The last gm rockers I got for a customer were nowhere near the quality of the aftermarket rockers we have, they were thinner metal and the rear roll was very wavy. Anybody bought them lately?

I bought aftermarket ones at Chevyduty for 19 bucks. The fit was so perfect I wouldn't have given an extra dollar for NOS. I am quite sure the "GM" ones are just a "GM restoration part" which just means that some aftermarket company is paying GM to put their name on it. GM is not still making parts for 30 year old trucks...hell your lucky if they can get you parts for a 10 year old truck

Tom you would not believe how many parts are still available from gm. Grills, inner grills, mirrors, door handles, door parts, sills, headlight bezels, inner fenders, radiator supports, trim etc. There's not a day that i'm not on the phone to gm ordering parts or sending a customer to my local gm dealer because I don't stock that item. The warehouse in Lansing Mi and Jacksonville Fl is full of old gm parts if you can get your dealer to look them up for you, most dealers will tell you it's discontinued because they don't have the old books with the part numbers. I work with gm dealers in Ca,Oh,Tx and 2 in Fl who will look up the parts and drop ship for me all the time. When you see a gm restoration part icon it is not a gm part, the company has leased the licensed trademark from gm to produce their own products. I won't mention names but if they have a bigtime advertising budget guess who's paying for it with high prices and cheaper parts. Be aware of restocking fee's and authorizing returned parts before returning them. A company with nothing to hide will give you your money back including shipping charges both ways if the part is inferior. Just my 2 commonsence.

This whole d@mn nos vs aftermarket parts fiasco is a scam. The "GM Restoration Part" icon sounds like its just another way for GM to lease their name and make boocoo bucks off of us while for all they know we are getting inferior parts. But of course, the average schmuck like me thinks they are getting superior parts because of that icon.

So mothertruckers.............

whats the story? How do you know if the parts are GM parts or not? Are the parts through gmpartsdirect.com actually GM parts? Any ideas? I'm NOT implying GM parts are necessarily better than aftermarket, which you talked about already. Some of the other vendors on here have implied the same thing you have.

Hey mother trucker. I live in the lansing area. A friend of mine has a friend who has a friend .... Anyway. Rumor has it that 8' fleetside bed sides have been seen in one of the area GM warehouses within the past 4-5 years. I have checked with a couple dealers and they say they are exstinct. Would you have any knowledge of there existance or maybe part #'s for each side? Thanks in advance, PAUL

reply about aftermarket sheetmetal

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD ADD MY 2 CENTS. KENNYS TRUCKS HERE IN TULSA GUARANTEE'S HIS PARTS TO FIT. I HAVE BEEN IN HIS SHOWROOM SEVERAL TIMES. KENNY, AND HIS WIFE ARE VERY PERSONABLE AND CUSTOMER ORIENTED. I SPOKE WITH HIM ABOUT THE AFTERMARKET QUALITY AND MATCH UP OF AFTERMARKET METAL. HE WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY, SEND YOU A NEW ROCKER, PANEL, FLOOR PAN'S ETC..... PLUS PAY TO HAVE THE ITEM PICKED UP FROM YOUR HOME. ANYWAYS THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR CONCERN OF MY AS WELL FELLA'S. I HAVE DEVELOPED AN EXCELLANT RAPPORT WITH KENNYS, GIVE THEM A HOLLAR.

BY THE WAY, HIS ROCKER'S ARE $20.00 EACH AND GOOD QUALITY.
IF THEY DON'T FIT TELL HIM TO SEND UPS TO GET EM NUFF SAID.

LATERS, CHUCK

I ordered a couple of sets of aftermarkets that did not fit. Ordered the GM originals. The fit was perfect but they were wavy at the back as stated in the earlier post. Ordered repos from Mothertruckers. I am happy with them, although the fit is not perfect.

I just got my rockers in from Mothertruckers. They are repos, and in my quick test fit tonight, they look like they will fit very well. I am very happy with them, they aren't wavy and are nice thick steel. Not bad for both rockers shipped to my door for $50! Now just have to get a welder to put them on with.

Blue Beard email me for gm parts.

gman I have emailed gmpartsdirect with gm part numbers I know are still available and they tell me no such number is in their database which leads me to think if I can get it why can't they?? A gm part comes in a gm box or in the case of weatherstripping,trim,67-8 grills etc in vacuum sealed sheet clear and white plastic with blue lettering.

72addict I have heard that rumor also and don't dought it to be true as I have seen them on ebay by a seller in Mi. My dealers say discontinued.

70cst10_05 my opinion is no but thats my opinion.

firemanchuck to my knoledge Kenny is a stand up parts guy as he has adopted the same policy on parts as we have on returned parts and his prices are in the ballpark. 19.00

umrebelsfan what part of the panel gave you trouble? this is the first I have heard a fit problem, please let the board members and me know.

Chevy Wrench anytime someone is ordering a part through the catalog you will get that message, i have gotten 22 online orders in the last 2 hours so keep trying or call toll free 1-866-755-6772 tomorrow.

70cst10_05 you want between 3/16 to 1/4' between the door bottom and the rocker at front and rear flats before the curve up.
