Turn Signal Switch - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Coming home from work today I broke the turn signal switch on my truck. I have a 72 C10, non-tilt, auto on the column.

I got the wheel off, the little aluminum hub off too. I got all the way down to the switch itself, and can't seem to get it out. The arm is off, and the screws are out, but I can't get the switch out because it is caught because of the hazard button and the center shaft in the column.

Do I need to pull that whole part of the column off off the shaft? The bearing looks to have seen better days. It will be fine, if I don't mess with it.

So I want to get as much info on this before I make a bad day into a worse one.

If you depress the hazard button it will help your situation.

I tried that but it was a real tight fit. I figured there had to be another way, so I stopped. I pick the new switch up from the store tomorrow, so I will give it another go. Thanks

Did you unscrew the hazard button from the switch? After unscrewing the button you should be able to depress the hazard switch just enough to slide it out. No need to disassemble the column.

I thought to unscrew it haha. It is the same color red as the plastic part inside the column, I just figured it was one piece.

They have always come right out for me with maybe a bit of wiggle work. I need to replace the one in my truck now as the hazard switch is broken and the switch won't cancel on one side most of the time. You did take all of the screws out? I think there are three that hold it in.
Also if you just broke the cam (the part that moves with the lever you can buy that separate and not have to replace the whole switch. Saves a stack of bux.

Original hazard buttons weren't screw-in. The new one will likely be a screw-in though. The biggest problem I had with the switch coming out was the wiring and plug.

Yeah the original hazard button is a red one, it does not unscrew. I will try again tonight to get it out. But other than yanking the top bearing out, I don't see this thing coming out.

Switched replaced, not as bad as I thought. Just needed to take a break and go at it again with a clear mind. Just need to get a new steering wheel nut, since the guy that owned the truck before me destroyed the end of the column.
