Re: Electric fans
Two questions:
1. What year(s) of Grand Cherokee did you use? The current body style, or the previous body? 2. For the Windstar fans - how did you control them? together or separately? I saw one fan is bigger than the other. Just figured oem setup controls them separately but that would be a pain to setup.

Re: Electric fans
I have a 350. The fans were 50 from the junkyard and I got a wiring adapter from Auto Zone that had all the wires, a temp prob, relay and controller for 30. It is adjustable between 150 and 205. The fans fit real close to the size of the radiator. I think the previous fan that I had before was wrong since it was from the old motor and I changed to a serp belt. My engine was running about 245. I put these fans in and it runs nice and cool. I can get better pics tomm.

Re: Electric fans
So do the electric fans really cool that much better than just the stock fan and shroud?
I am rebuilding a sb400 with aluminum heads and I want it to stay as cool as possible. Would electric fans be a good investment for me? |

Re: Electric fans
It's not that they cool better, it's the fact that they only run when you need them to and don't have a constant drag on the motor....like hwy speeds when there's plenty of airflow through the radiator w/out a fan running. I run a single 16" s-blade fan w/custom aluminum shroud and it keeps my 10.4:1 compression 383 plenty cool, even in 100+ ambient temps with the a/c blasting.

Re: Electric fans
Go to Summit Racing and look at the BE Cool 11" dual fan set that is listed under their product name. It is actually a SPAL brand 11" dual fan set with the fan shroud built for them. All you would need to d to m ount them is to use some "Mill" strap aluminum (purchase at any hardware outlet) to create two cross braces and then possibly a couple of upright brackets to mount to the top and bottom of the radiator support. I have a couple sets of these fans in my trucks and they work great and move a lot of air.

Re: Electric fans
It looks like a smallblock with a 90's model serpentine setup. I priced the Windstar fans today at my dealership ,yeah I work for a Ford dealer, they were around $190 new.

Re: Electric fans
Keith:
Were you able to use one controller for both of your windstar fans? Point being, I'm trying to figure out about how many amps the windstar fans consume.

Re: Electric fans
The controller I got was pre-wired for 2 fans. Also has a wire to run to the A/C compressor. They both kick on at the same time. When I get around to fixing the A/C I will try to run the wire to the compressor. Was 107 here yesterday and I was running the truck all around town and had no issues at all.

Re: Electric fans
I was looking at this controller from summit:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-16749/ It has a 25 amp max rating, and the a/c hookup. Just wondering what your controller rating was. Thanks!

I also have the windstar fans, they are a complete aftermarket setup, TYC brand I think. The shroud is mounted up-side-down and is mounted to a lightly modified upper panel (the 70's style). The assembly is the perfect size for the radiator and it seems to work very well. |

Re: Electric fans
If you want the ultimate cooling fan, search for a 97-98 Mark VIII fan. Older Mark VIII fans flow very good too. The fans are 18". Some are single speed, but most are two speed. You can tell by the wiring cover.
My LS1 fans are running at full speed due to temps in the 100s. I need them at full speed for A/C purposes and not engine cooling. The engine prefers hot temps for aluminum heads. Aluminum heads like a minimum 195 temp. I'm considering the Mark VIII fan. The low speed for A/C and high speed for cooling. The 190 low set point is reached easily going down the road. Who wants a set of LS1 fans..... Last edited by gchemist; 07-20-2009 at 11:06 PM. |

Re: Electric fans
Got the fans on the truck, and hooked up a temp 12V line to one of them. The temp gauge read just a hair under 210*. Not bad for 1 fan out of the 2?
