I concur, I got the mini high torque starter for the 68 from Skip White on ebay as well. Bolted right up and worked perfectly.

Re: New Starter!Which One?

Get a GM (or high quality replacement) from a mid-late 90's c/k. Get the correct metric shank to SAE thread bolts. Best thing since sliced bread.

Re: New Starter!Which One?

I have to vote with Jim PA. I'd favor the the hd Delco starter myself unless there was a serious space limitation. I've rebuilt my own starters for years and outside of wearing them out because I put a lot of miles on my vehicles I have had little trouble with them. I think the starter on my truck right now has the stock endframe and 79 Cadillac 425 field coils and armature as that is what I had laying around when I needed to put a starter together. I don't have enough engine to warrant spending the money on a gear reduction starter nor the space limitations to need one. Problem is that I am pretty well out of spare parts to rebuild them so I will probably be out hunting a starter the next time around.

I haven't bought a starter from Skip White but I have bought a lot of other parts and will buy a lot more in the future and they always give great service. If you email them with a question you get a real answer right back with the info you needed.
But I have also received equal service from Summit so the choice is yours.

The GM starter from the mid 90's is smaller, lighter, and fits better than the high-torque mini starter that it replaced (at least for me).

Edit: See this thread--> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=starter

Re: New Starter!Which One?

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the above. I have the Skip White mini starter now and it is fine. The last Proline mini starter I had lasted 15 years.
