Re: Poll: Cut the frame or no??

i would look for another longbed frame to cut, your truck looks nice enough that I would not want it out of service while the frame is being modified?

Cut it & don't look back. I step cut mine, & added diamond shaped gussets on the inside. Very quick & easy mod. Cutting the bed floor is much more time consuming just because of the amount of cutting / welding.

Re: Poll: Cut the frame or no??

i'd reuse the original long bed and rear frame and build a matching trailer. that way you have the extra length when you need it. was thinking about doing that with my 87 ram 50 (mitsubishi). it is a short bed truck and there are times the longer bed can be handly (snowmobile, motorcycle, etc, etc.) for a vintage chevy, i'd be inclined to keep it stock. the short beds are very sporty (and thus extremely popular) but there are many advantages to the longer wheelbase and larger cargo volume. best of luck with your project!
