Re: disastor has struck

If everything was running fine, but just pooped out, and you don't have any fuel going to the carb, it may well be the fuel pump has gone south. You can check it by running a hose from the fuel pump outlet to a bucket. Then have a helper crank the engine just for a couple of turns (with a fire extinguisher on hand just in case) The bucket should get fuel, if not run down to your local NAPA for a new fuel pump.

Now if it pumps fuel, how is the inline fuel filter? How about the one in the carb inlet? (if its a q-jet of course)

Re: disastor has struck

Try taking off the line from the fuel pump to the carb and see if there is any fuel coming through there. I had a similar issue on my 69 short I sold and it was the fuel pump. It could also be the filter being completely blocked if you have one...either in the tank or at the carb...

Re: disastor has struck

sounds like the pump is definitely the problem....just make sure to get the pushrod seated properly when installing the new one. I think there are some tips in the FAQ section.

Re: disastor has struck

with the metal line to the carb full of fuel sounds like the fuel filter in the inlet of the carb is plugged or the carb float is not opening the needle of the carb inlet. meaning that he float is stuck.

Re: disastor has struck

Since it was late last night I may have been confused

So you're saying the metal line that's on the framerail that leads to the fuel pump....that's the one you took off and the gas poured out of? And the rubber line from the pump to the carb didn't have any fuel in it?

If that's the case it's 99.9% the fuel pump. If it's a metal line leading from the fuel pump to the carb then it could be the float/needles/carb filter, etc...

Re: disastor has struck

well you would of never of guessed the problem... i pulled old fuel pump off last night.. put the new one on when i got off work today.. and tryed starting it and still no gas.. had a friend blow in tank to get gas to the carb.. still nothing.. finally he looked underneath and a rubber line was pinched off... so technically i really didnt need a new pump but it never hurts to have a spare problem is fixed..

Re: disastor has struck

same thing happened to mine. there is a sort of diaphragm inside the fuel pump. it ripped apart and i had to push my truck for about 1/4 mile.

Re: disastor has struck

Be sure not to use long lengths of rubber hose as they can do just what yours did. I always use hard line connected by very short lengths of rubber hose. The less rubber you use, the safer everything will be.
